Some Tips For Couples Moving In Together

Our homes are the most personal space we exist in, they are the private place where we can really kick back and be ourselves. Then love happens, and the prospect of sharing that personal space seems both infinitely attractive and a little bit daunting, too. This is only natural and in most cases, it works out wonderfully, but there are some things we can do to help ensure the experience of living together goes smoothly, especially in those precarious early days.

Many new couples find that they split their time between staying over at one partner’s place or the other’s. When it comes time to choose which will be the permanent default, the best answer is for you to find someplace new together that you can make into a truly shared space that reflects both of your tastes. While it’s fine to choose your favourite old furniture to mix together, one thing you should definitely invest in is a new bed and bedclothes, including quilt Covers that are a colour and pattern you will both enjoy. The bed is the place where you will be coexisting the most, sleeping and engaging in other pleasant activities, so make it special!

Speaking of the bedroom, another important thing for lovebirds in a new nest is to remember to make time for intimacy. It’s an unfortunate truth that when people transition to cohabitating from dating that their sex lives can suffer. The excitement of seeing each other on rarer occasions can subside a bit when you are with each other all the time, engaged in the humdrum chores of everyday living. Make sure to plan a special date night at least once a week when you can go out for a romantic evening on the town, or stay in and enjoy a glass of wine by the fireplace. Either way, the point is to enjoy some intimacy and keep the magic alive!

Conversely, it will also be important to set aside some me time when you can be alone. We all need some time off from each other to reflect and recharge in private, so it’s best to communicate that need honestly with your partner, and respect each other’s boundaries. This has nothing to do with your love for each other and everything to do with simple psychology. Never be too clingy, and encourage your partner to go out with their friends once in a while, or just give each other some space around the house for an evening by engaging in separate activities in different rooms. The happy result of this time off is it will keep you both relaxed and actually strengthen your desire to be with each other!

To avoid conflicts, discuss the origins of psychology on household responsibilities early on. Different cleanliness standards can be reconciled by finding common ground. Working together on chores, like washing dishes after dinner, can help maintain harmony.
