Nearly a quarter of the world’s population subscribes to the religious tenets of Islam, making their religious celebrations large and incredible affairs.
Surely a celebration calls for dressing up, right? Muslim religious celebrations do include jewelry and other forms of beautifying the self, but you must be careful: going about it the wrong way may end up being disrespectful on one of the holiest days of the year.
If you’ve been invited to a Muslim religious celebration, don’t taint the relationship you have with your host by being disrespectful as their guest!
Which forms of jewelry are acceptable and which are not? The answers might surprise you, but if you follow these rules, you should be able to celebrate religious holidays with Islamic jewelry that is fun and respectful!
Islamic Jewelry for Him
An incredibly important thing to remember is that men are not to wear gold. If you would like to wear jewelry to a religious celebration, make sure it is silver.
Men are permitted to wear rings in Islam. However, there is not a consensus on necklaces and earrings.
Many conservative groups believe men should not wear necklaces and earrings because it goes against Islam’s rule that men should not wear women’s clothing and vice versa.
On the other hand, many less conservative groups allow men in their midst to wear necklaces and earrings.
Due to this discrepancy, it is best to determine the stance of the community with which you’ll be celebrating before the celebration. If you’re unable to, don’t wear necklaces and earrings just in case. Better safe than sorry!

Women are not to wear jingling jewelry, since it may bring attention from men. Therefore, avoid wearing bangles or earrings that make a lot of noise.
During Ramadan, women are not to wear jewelry around strangers.
When wearing jewelry, don’t wear anything that has an image on it. Text is acceptable, however.
An example of a non-jingling, text-based necklace is the 4-Qul necklace. The 4 Quls are often called the “Shielding Chapters” as they protect from the whispers of Satan. Here you can find more info on the 4 Quls and the 4-Qul necklace!
The crescent moon is considered holy in many Muslim belief systems, so crescent moon-shaped jewelry is a go-to for many women! There are many incredibly beautiful crescent moon statement pieces available online through various vendors.
Allah jewelry must be taken off before going to the restroom, as it is disrespectful to Allah to wear his name in a place that is not cleansed and holy. If you think you won’t be able to remember to take it off, don’t wear it.
