Summer is a great time to knock out all those projects on your to-do list. We recently shared a post about simple home improvement projects you can tackle this season, but the inside of your home is just as important!
Here are five ideas you can use to give any room a makeover without breaking your budget.
- Rearrange Furniture
The cheapest way to give a space a makeover is to simply rearrange your furniture! You might be surprised by how big of an effect just shuffling things around can have. Try rotating your bed, relocating your dresser, and making the space feel more open. This might be easier said than done if you’re working with tight quarters, in which case you can think about picking up Universal furniture to help you save space.
- Decorate with Frames
You don’t need a giant piece of framed art to create a focal point in your room; decorating with picture frames is a cost-effective strategy that achieves the same outcome. Head to the swap market one weekend and pick out a few vintage finds or revitalize old frames that you already have laying around the house.
You can go for with a contemporary chic aesthetic by going with all white frames or go for a boho vibe by building contrast between rich, earthy hues. If modernism is more your thing, then pair it with ledged shelves to create crisp, clean lines.
It’s the perfect way to print photos that have been taking up all that storage space on your phone and bring your summer memories to life. You can also frame the kids’ masterful works of art, or even leave them blank for an eye-catching wall display.
- Add Vinyl Decals
Another way to add accents to the walls in your home—without having to purchase expensive décor—is to apply vinyl decals. They’re super simple to use and can be easily removed when it comes time for the next makeover. You’ll find them in all shapes and sizes perfect for any space. Whether you want to turn a bedroom into a scene of nature with tree wall stickers or place an inspirational quote in the entry way, you’ll have no shortage of options to choose from.
- Create a Chalkboard
It always feels nice to give a room a fresh coat of paint, but the process can be expensive and time consuming. Rather than priming and painting all four walls with a couple of coats, checkout Ben chalkboard paint. It’s available in any color, so you don’t have to settle with the standard black, and it allows you to turn virtually any surface into an erasable chalkboard.
You can paint one wall of a child’s bedroom with chalk paint to let their creativity run wild, or tape off a square in the laundry room to jot down reminders. There’s really so many ways it can be used, and the ability to continually draw and change the pictures means that your room can receive regular makeovers with one small, upfront investment.
- Change the Upholstery
If you’re giving your living room a makeover, it can seem like a pretty tall order. It’s probably the largest space in your home, which means it will require a lot of work and attention. Some homeowners will put off redesigning the area for as long as possible in order to avoid purchasing new furniture. But rather than getting an entirely new couch set, why not just change the upholstery on your current set up?
Say goodbye to stains, snags, and outdated prints. Pick a different fabric material to replace it with that’s more in tune with your current tastes. Dr. Sofa can transform a couch that looks used and worn, lacking the life and charm it once had, into an entirely new piece at a fraction of the cost.
Keep in mind that you can use this strategy throughout the whole house by upholstering the chairs in the dining room, the headboard in the bedroom, or the slipcover in the guest room. You have so much flexibility between textures and tones—and knowing that you can easily change your mind again in a few years, you won’t feel intense pressure to make the perfect choice.
