A List of Brilliant Tips to Help You Prepare Your Living Room for a Move

July 20, 2018

The living room or living area is often the largest area in any home, and it can definitely be a challenge to prepare it for a move. The living area is usually comprised of a lot of big and bulky furniture, including sofas, armchairs, coffee tables, side tables, and breakables such as lamps and so on. You would also need to dismantle or disassemble your living room furniture for easier transport. Indeed, there are so many things to do when it comes to preparing your living area for a move. So how can you make it easier on yourself? Here’s a list of brilliant tips to help you prepare.

  • Before you begin, make sure to have a number of assorted tools with you so it will be easier to dismantle or disassemble the furniture in your living room. Some of the most important tools would be different kinds of screwdrivers, a hammer, and so on.
  • If you have large mirrors or picture frames, you can protect their edges by placing pipe insulation or pool noodles on the edges of the frames.
  • Before you dismantle your entertainment centre, take a photo of the entertainment centre’s wiring so you will have a clear idea of how it is set up. You should then label each wire using packing tape prior to unplugging the system so you can conveniently re-wire all the devices once you have arrived at your new home.
  • When packing lamps and lighting fixtures, remove all the light bulbs first and make sure the bulbs are stored safely and properly in a box. The best way to wrap your light bulbs would be to use bubble wrap.
  • If you have carpeting and would like to remove the dents made by furniture on the carpet, use ice cubes. Just place a couple of ice cubes on each dent and let the cubes melt. Once the cubes have melted, lift or remove the fibres with a spoon.
  • If you are removing nails from the walls with a hammer, wrap the hammer’s end with an elastic band so the walls don’t get scuffed or scratched.
  • If you have artwork, you can pack it by placing it inside a postal envelope which is padded. Then simply label the postal envelope and place the envelopes inside a box to keep the artwork extra safe during transport.
  • Check if your couches, sofas, and armchairs have any detachable parts so you can move them more easily. Some sofas and armchairs have feet which can be unscrewed or detachable backs.
  • Cords and wires can be placed inside rolls of toilet paper, but make sure they are properly labelled. Cords for phones should be labelled, for example, as should cords for speakers, power cables, and the like.

Moving your living area is not so difficult if you know how to do it correctly and if you take advantage of certain hacks, as one of the best removal companies in Gloucester, Advanced Removals & Storage, will tell you. But it would be best to prepare everything as early as you possibly can so that you are not unduly stressed during moving day.
