The bible is an excellent source of inspiration and insight for any believer. Through life, we are bound to face many different kinds of challenges and obstacles, and turning to the Holy book brings with it hope needed to overcome such. It is quite uplifting going through scriptures in the Bible and finding stories of people in difficult situations and how they used the word of God to find renewed strength and breakthrough. One of the ways of obeying God’s word is by living a healthy life. The scripture is explicit in 1 Corinthians 6:19 describing our bodies as the sanctuaries of the Holy Spirit.
However, seeing how women, in particular, overcame their travails and maintained good health in life, is an excellent source of motivation. The Bible contains countless examples of women who were able to maintain a certain level of wellness in their lives by heeding to the word of God. In this article, I’m going to highlight some of these women and their stories and how their faith helped them overcome tough situations.
- Proper Diet
I will start with the first book of the Bible-Genesis. In genesis, we have Eve, who, before her fall into temptation, had a great relationship with God. She fell into food temptation, which God warns explicitly. Gluttony is a significant hindrance to the lives of many Christians, and we ought to be active against it. Greed and self-indulgence were not in her original nature. If they made her and Adam be thrown out from the Garden of Eden, then it is undoubtedly not a good thing. We can teach ourselves from Eve’s experience that improper diet is a major cause of illnesses. Overindulging in unhealthy foods will ultimately result in disease. It is, therefore, vital to pray hard not to yield to food temptation.
- Mental Health
Another great woman in the bible is Naomi. Her story is in the book of Ruth. She is an example of how to deal with depression and maintain mental wellness. After the death of her husband, she was so distressed that she requested her name change from Naomi to Mara. Naomi meant pleasant, while Mara meant bitter. From this story, we can see that Naomi did not hide her mental state. Many people in the current world conceal their shame and disappointment and pretend that everything is fine. It becomes a killer disease from the inside. Hiding these emotions can severely affect our physical health as well. We learn a lot from Naomi’s story about accepting situations as they are and not letting them kill us from the inside. Loneliness and isolating oneself increases the chances of premature death, and we should pray against such to maintain good health.
- Physical Fitness
In Proverbs 31, we have a woman described as being physically fit. She engages in many activities, such as being a mother, wife, businesswoman, and an exemplary housewife. Staying fit physically has many benefits, and as such, there is no coincidence to the fact that the Holy Spirit chose to highlight her story. She is someone who has a strong internal character and pure physical strength. We can learn that God is interested in the well-being of our minds, spirit, and of course, the body.
- Avoiding Alcoholic Beverages
The scriptures in the book of Titus 2:3-5, call women to be reverent in their behavior and not to fall into alcohol drinking behavior. Older women are called to be advisers to the young, teaching what is good at all times. The scriptures, therefore, understand the dangers of too much drinking both to the mind and the body.
The women in the bible have many good virtues to be followed by the current generation. If the ladies of this world are to follow the examples set by these exemplary women in the Bible, the world would indeed be a beautiful place to live.
