If you have an itchy dog, you’ll want to check out these five home remedies before spending time and money on pricey prescriptions.
Home Remedies for Your Itchy Dog
Are home remedies helping you get your own health on track? Let’s take a look at the latest home remedies that will benefit your furry friend.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar Mixture
You must be aware of the benefits of apple cider vinegar for you, but how about your dog?
Mixed with equal parts of water in a spray bottle, apple cider vinegar will help relieve your dog’s itchy skin. Just spray it on or apply with a sponge.
Soak itchy paws in the 50/50 solution for up to five minutes to give your dog some relief.
Be cautious if your dog has any open wounds. The solution will definitely sting!
2. Olive Oil
This is another product that has many human benefits that are also beneficial to our dogs.
Olive oil contains vitamins E and K and is chock full of antioxidants. A little bit added to their food 2-3 times per week will do wonders for their skin and coat.
While it works to take away the itch, your dog’s coat will become healthy-looking and shiny.
3. Oatmeal Bath
Have you ever tried an oatmeal bath to soothe bug bites or chicken pox? It will have the same effect on your itchy dog.
Grind oatmeal into a fine powder in your food processor or coffee grinder. Add it to a warm bath and have your dog soak for 10-15 minutes.
If soaking in a bath is not going to work with your dog, mix the oatmeal with some water and put it on hot spots or any inflamed area.
4. Coconut Oil
This is a dog favorite! You can give your dogs a teaspoon of coconut oil on their food to boost their immune system.
It can also be applied directly to the skin to moisturize and stop the itching and soothe the skin.
We recommend organic, cold-pressed coconut oil.
5. Plain Yogurt
Choose plain yogurt without additives and definitely no sugar! A brand that contains probiotics is best.
Add this to your dog’s food a few times a week to keep good bacteria in your dog’s digestive tract. This will strengthen the immune system and in turn ward off skin infections.
