Take Your Friends to an African Quest to the Great Victoria Falls

November 3, 2021

Africa is a dream and a goal for many travelers. There are so many documentaries and films that show how majestic the landscape and the wildlife in the continent are. Whether you travel for food or the adrenaline rush in breathtaking adventures, there is a place in Africa for you.

If you do plan to visit African countries, you have to make careful plans. Unlike in the movie “Blended” with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, you won’t be magically landing in a massive resort where everything is taken care of for you. Research well and take notes together with your friends to make the most of this dream trip.

Tips for Your Travel to Victoria Falls

Africa is a vast continent, so unless you plan to spend a year traveling around the whole of Africa, you’d better choose a specific destination. If everyone in your group is hungry for some death-defying adventures and majestic sceneries, then head to the incredible Victoria Falls. Take the route from Namibia to Zimbabwe and enjoy the roller coaster ride from the airport to the falls. This course is doable in a week, and you can go almost any time of the year. That said, here are a few tips to help you on your planning:

  • Learn Some Local Slang

Many Africans speak English in Africa, but of course, you have to make an effort to pick up some local slang. English is altered and mixed with local nuances in all the countries where English is not the native tongue. It will be a big help if you try to learn essential words and sentences to get by. Plus, the locals will appreciate you for adjusting to them. After all, you are in their territory, so you’ll be the one who should make an effort.

  • Rent a Car

Car rentals are everywhere in Africa since driving is the easiest way to cross borders. You will be landing at Hosea Kutako International Airport in the city of Windhoek in Namibia. You can get pretty much everything you need for the trip at the airport. Buy some Namibian dollars, get a data sim, and rent a car.

They drive on the left side in Africa, so take note of that. You will be enjoying the scenery just from the car ride so take lots of pictures. Since Africa is generally a touristy place, you can expect that everything is a bit pricey. You will easily spend a lot of dollars riding a taxi. Be smart with your expenses.

  • Book BNBs Ahead of Time

If you prefer hotels, they are easier to book. But since you are traveling with a group of friends, try hunting from some bed-and-breakfasts ahead of time. You can catch great deals when you book earlier compared to booking on the spot or close to your arrival dates. Plus, if you book a place in advance, you get to compare amenities.

Consider that Namibia has a subtropical desert climate, which means it can get a bit warm in the day and cold at night, especially during winter. So make sure that you book a place to make your stay comfortable. Check for amenities such as air conditioning and furnaces and hot and cold water for showers. Also, check if the location is accessible from the spots you want to visit.

Activities to Do from Namibia to Zimbabwe

There are limitless adventures in Africa. All you need to do is to know where to look. Here are a few thrills you can do from Namibia to Zimbabwe:

  • Camp in the Dunes of Sossusvlei

The real adventure begins when paved roads turn to dirt. An alternative to staying the night in a cozy hotel is to sleep under the stars. You can rent a space for tent pitching in Sossuvlei, a five-hour ride away from Windhoek. It’s better if you come before dusk so you can hike up the sand dunes and enjoy the sun setting over the vast brown desert.

  • Go Sandboarding on the Coasts of Swakopmund

Swakopmund is a coastal city in Namibia. There are plenty of luxurious hotels downtown. Once you arrive here, you can book a tour with the place you are staying for activities in the desert. The most popular is to go sandboarding. You will fall and roll in the sand a lot, but that is part of the fun. If you prefer roaming around the desert on wheels, go for an ATV ride instead. Finally, to head to Victoria Falls, you will be driving a lot throughsafarisand seeing big animals out in the open.

  • Bungee-Jump at Victoria Falls

You will get a dose of adrenaline that can last you for decades when you take up the most challenging activity at the Victoria Falls Bridge. Over the white water rushing below, the bridge stands at 128 meters high. If you decide to face your fear, you will be jumping into the open air from that height.

You have a gorgeous view in front of you, and the biggest challenge is mustering up the courage to jump. Once that is over, you can finally declare that you did the highest bungee jump in Zimbabwe, right below the majestic Victoria Falls. You even get a certificate to show for it.

Traveling to Africa requires you to spend a lot of time planning. But once you are there, every effort will be worth it. Africa can easily be the best trip of your life.
