The lottery. You never know, right?
Everyone that is playing Powerball numbers is trying to win that illustrious jackpot. However, you have better odds of becoming a movie star than actually winning that jackpot.
People playing the Powerball often enough probably wonder what the best Powerball numbers are? Well, this is a strategy to increase your chances.
Join a Pool
This is the easiest way to increase your chances because it can give you 10-20 times the number of chances to win a draw, depending on how many people are in your group.
Normally, most people would probably only buy one ticket for every draw. If you have family or a group of co-workers, you could get 10 people on board and thus have 10 entries in the lottery.
Best of all, you would only be paying 10% of the cost for tickets in that scenario for the same amount of chances to win.
The main catch is that you would have to split a jackpot 10 ways if one of the tickets came out. But hey, at possibly $300 million, is that really such a terrible thing to split?
Buy More Tickets
One other obvious way that you can increase your chances is to buy more tickets in the Powerball. So, instead of buying one ticket per draw, you can buy 2-3 tickets every time you play.
Also, instead of just playing once a week, you can play every day of the week that there is a drawing to increase your chances.
Once you decide on a certain system, you should stick to it. However, do not spend money on the lottery that you cannot afford to lose, no matter how big your dreams of the jackpot are.
Random numbers are a good strategy to have in Powerball because it eliminates the possibility of obvious patterns. For example, some people may play all even numbers, others may play all numbers that end in zeros.
These types of patterns are very unlikely to come out, as the draw is at random compared to the patterns that you might have.
One suggestion to avoid falling into that trap is to use an automatic number generator. Look here for more on how to use that before you buy your tickets.
Best Powerball Numbers
There are not technically any true best numbers to play on any given lottery draw, but there are ways to see if your numbers are lucky or not. The main Powerball and state lottery websites post the most recent draws.
However, some places take it a step further and keep track of how many times a number has come out in recent years. That source has kept track of every Powerball drawing since October of 2015.
So, there are about six years and over 600 drawings to go off of. According to that data, the regular number that has come out the most over the last six years is 61.
That number has come out 63 times, so just under 10% of the total drawings in the last six years.
The regular number that has come out the least is 34. That number has come out just 33 times in the last six years, totaling just over 5% of the drawings.
Then, there is the Powerball itself. There is a smaller pool of numbers to go off of here but yet, only one of those numbers gets picked on each draw.
The Powerball drawn the most often here is 24. It has been drawn 36 times and it totals about 5.65% of the draws at the time of writing.
Numbers that come out the least often in this spot are 12, 16, and 23, coming out just 18 times each.
You can use this information to either go towards picking the numbers that come out more often or pick numbers that you think are due to come out.
Avoid Recent Numbers
Statistically, the odds of coming up with the exact same set of numbers as a recent drawing are probably bigger than a general chance of winning the jackpot itself. So, the advice is to pay attention to the recent lottery results.
Here, you can get a better idea of what has already come out and determine what numbers you should avoid.
For instance, one recent drawing at the time of writing was 23, 29, 47, 59, 60, and a Powerball of 15. So, realistically, it probably would not be wise to buy a ticket with the exact same set of numbers listed on that draw if you want a realistic shot of hitting the jackpot.
Instead, study as much of the recent drawings as possible and make sure there are no real patterns between the numbers. Then, try to pick a different combination of numbers than any set that you have seen together.
Check Old Tickets
Finally, double-check those old lottery tickets before you decide to rip them or toss them. The reason is that plenty of big cash prizes in the past have gone unclaimed, likely because people either forgot about the tickets that they played or that they did not check closely enough.
Keep your tickets organized and remember what drawing date you played it for. Then, double and perhaps even triple-check your ticket to make sure that you did not win before throwing it out.
The last thing you want is to be sitting on a ticket worth millions of dollars.
