Do you identify as spiritual but not religious? If so, you are not alone as approximately 18% of Americans feel this way. What does it mean to be spiritual anyway?
In our ever chaotic world, it is important to go within. When you can bring harmony and peace within yourself, you can then channel that positive energy outward. Simple yet effective practices can open you up on a spiritual journey.
Are you curious about how to become more spiritual yourself? If so, you’ll want to keep reading on how to begin.
Practice Yoga
If learning how to become more spiritual in your life is one of your ambitions, then practicing yoga is a great place to begin. With the physical practice of yoga, you will see how the mind and body are connected.
There are all different types of yoga to explore at various skill levels. The common denominator is it is super beneficial to one’s health. Many see yoga as a way to reduce stress, boost their immune system, and even lower blood pressure.
If you struggle with anxiety, depression, fatigue, or insomnia, yoga will help you here as well.
Meditate
One of the best things you can do on your spiritual journey is meditating. If you are new to meditation or it intimidates you or you feel like you’re doing it wrong, don’t let that stop you. You can begin by starting small and only meditating for 1 minute.
Start by sitting or lying comfortably, closing your eyes, and focusing on your breathing. You want a continuous breath inhaling from your nostrils and out of your mouth.
By breathing deeply and focusing on your breath, you are virtually void of thought. If you find yourself drifting, just bring yourself back to center by focusing on your breath again.
You will learn that the amount of time isn’t as important as the practice itself. Becoming more spiritual is all about learning what works for you best.
Spend Time in Nature
Learning how to become more spiritual doesn’t need to be complicated. If you find yourself to be stressed, anxious, or feeling disconnected, spending time in nature is one of the best things you can do.
If you live near the mountains or beach, be grateful and take walks or hikes. When you spend time in nature, remember to be mindful and take it in all its beauty. Many see spending time in nature as a way to meditate too.
