Arguments to Convince Skeptics That Global Warming is Real

January 20, 2019

The good news is that there is a growing number of people who believe that climate change is real, and humans caused these changes. Despite that, there are still some who don’t think that it exists. Others believe that climate change is happening, but they don’t accept that humans are behind it. Worse, some of them are in office and have the power to shape climate-related policies.

These politicians won’t go maintain power if more people believe in climate change and deny them the chance to get elected because of their beliefs. You can do your share by talking to these people and convincing them that climate change is real.

Almost all research comes to the same conclusion

Climate scientists almost have a unanimous voice in saying that climate change is real and humans caused it. Despite the differing methods and scope in conducting the research, the conclusion remains the same. These studies can point to a definitive conclusion and believing otherwise would be harmful.

Natural disasters are getting worse

Each year, countries around the world are suffering from natural disasters. In some parts, there are floods due to the increased sea levels. In other areas, there is drought due to the rise in global temperature. However, records show that it has been different in recent years. Records show that the hottest temperature in history took place only a few months ago, and each year tops the previous year for being the hottest. As a result, these natural disasters are more devastating than the last.

Climate change does not only happen due to natural causes

Most skeptics love pointing out that climate change occurred in the past, and it is natural for us to see it happen again. Climate change caused the end of the ice age millions of years ago. Although this argument is true, human activities are expediting the current process. For instance, global temperature does not have to rise this fast, but human activities have caused these sudden changes.

We need to protect the environment anyway

In the end, if it is still difficult for you to convince skeptics to believe in climate change, you can tell them that regardless of their beliefs, they have the responsibility to protect the environment. Therefore, it does not hurt to make some changes in daily practices even if they cause inconvenience. Does it hurt to reduce energy consumption at home? Does it take time to segregate waste and recycle what is still useful? You don’t need to be a climate change believer to see that these actions are essential.

You can start now

If you can’t convince others, you need to show them that you are doing something. For instance, you need to avoid throwing everything out and wait for the trash collector to do the job. You can start segregating waste at home and keep the things that are still useful. You can also hire a furniture removal company if you have furniture that you don’t need, but others may still use. These changes can go a long way toward improving things if everyone does them.
