3 Ways to Attach Patches to Clothes

August 23, 2020

The average American owns around 65 items of clothing.

But, we all have pieces that we love and wear over and over again! So, what do you do when you’ve found a hole in your favorite jumper? You patch it up!

Patches are great for covering up holes, but they can also be used for decoration or even to attach awards to swimwear.

In this article, we’ll look at how to attach patches. There are many different options, you simply need to find the right choice for you.

1. Attach Your Patches With Glue

If you don’t own a sewing machine and were never taught how to bring a needle to cloth, then it’s time to buy some glue.

Unfortunately, this way of attaching patches can become very messy if you don’t get it right. You’ll need to choose high-quality glue that is very strong to ensure your patch stays in place. Look out for cloth glue!

Before you start, make sure your cloth is completely dry. This process won’t work with wet material. Put your glue on your patch, then let it dry slightly before attaching it.

2. Sew Your Patches On

With a little hard work and experience, you will be able to sew your patches to your clothes very easily.

Better yet, when sewing your patches on, they’re much more likely to stick around for longer and look neat too.

You’ll need a needle, thread, or a sewing machine. If you’re new to sewing, then choosing a custom patch border might help ensure you don’t ruin the image of the patch.

Check out tutorial videos on YouTube to help guide you through this process if you’ve never done it before.

3. Heat Seal All of Your Patches

This is a very easy method for attaching a patch and requires little effort. It’s a great way to glam up clothing, but expect your patch to fall off at some point in the near future!

All you need to do is make sure you buy a heat-seal patch. You can’t do this with every patch. There is glue on the back of these special patches which is then made sticky by any heat.

However, we recommend that you use an iron for your heat-seal patch. First, line up your item of clothing on a flat surface, preferably an ironing board.

Then, line up your patch wherever you want it. Next, cover the top image of the patch with a piece of material to ensure it is not ruined by the iron.

Finally, press down your hot iron onto the patch. This shouldn’t take too long, around one minute should do. And voila!

How to Attach Patches? Hire a Professional If You’re Stuck!

If you find that your patches keep falling off, no matter how many times you attach them, then it’s time to speak to a professional.

Check the internet to find a local seamstress who can ensure you don’t have sticky patches on your clothing any longer!
