The Telltale Signs of a Cockroach Infestation You Shouldn’t Ignore

September 17, 2020

Your home is supposed to be a safe place. You work hard to maintain your home and keep it clean. The last thing you want to have to deal with is a roach infestation. Even with keeping your home in tip-top shape these things still happen.

If you start to notice an increase in roaches or signs of roaches then keep on reading to learn about the signs of a cockroach infestation.

Cockroach Droppings

One of the major signs that you have a roach problem is roach droppings. If you start to see black specks that look like coffee grounds or dirt then there are cockroaches nearby.

You’ll want to clean up the droppings as you see them because the roaches will actually eat the feces. Roaches will eat anything they can find, even feces. The number of droppings you find can tell you how bad the infestation is.

You may feel like the droppings are never-ending, and if this is the case then it’s time to call pest control.

Seeing Roaches

It’s normal to see a roach every once in a while, but if it starts to become a common occurrence then there may be a problem.

Roaches tend to hide in places that are dark and moist such as cabinets. You may even see them come out at night and scatter when you turn on your lights. Roaches may come out during the day to try and find food sources if they are desperate.

If you start to see roaches more frequently then you better get a professional in there to inspect the roach infestation.

Odors

If you start to smell an odd musty odor then it could be from the roaches. The longer you have a roach problem the worse the smell will get. Roaches also have a smell when they decompose due to the oleic acid they produce.

The odor can even affect the taste of your food. If you have an infestation you may have to replace the food in your pantry if they have gotten into it.

Egg Casings

Roaches breed aggressively, which is why once you see a few they multiple and you have a problem.

The problem with roaches is they don’t lat just one egg. They produce a casing called oothecae that house the eggs. When the roaches hatch the casing is left behind. You can tell if you have the casings in your home since they’ll be white oval-shaped shells.

Some species, such as the German roach will carry the casing until its time to hatch making it more difficult to spot. If you notice these casings then you need an exterminator.

Signs of a Cockroach Infestation in Your Home

If you look around your home and start to spot roach droppings and casings then its time to call your local pest control because these are telltale signs of a cockroach infestation. It may seem like a tedious process but you’ll be happy when your home is roach free.
