The Different Types of Energy Vampires

June 8, 2022

If you’ve ever seen the hit show “What We Do in the Shadows”, you might think an energy vampire is someone like Colin Robinson. That is, a vampire who sucks out a person’s energy by making them feel uncomfortable!

Real-life energy vampires can be just as draining – to your home’s electricity supply, rather than your life energy that is. These devices suck electricity all day and can cost you a small fortune in the long run.

Want to learn more about different types of energy vampires and how to save energy? Read on for tips on how to rid yourself of these troublesome pests!

1. Lighting

Chances are, you’ll have some kind of lights running day in, day out. Even at night time, you probably leave a hall light on so you don’t stub your toe when you stumble out for a midnight bathroom break.

All those bulbs burning around the clock can take their toll, especially if you aren’t using energy-efficient bulbs. Replacing older bulbs with LED lights can help you make small savings each day which add up in the long run!

Not all kinds of light will cost you though. By making use of the natural light that shines down from the sun, you can make significant savings on your energy bill. Blue Raven Solar can equip your home with solar panels to help you significantly reduce your energy output!

2. AC Units

Air conditioning units are one of the most common energy vampire appliances. They have to work hard to keep you cool, so it’s no wonder AC units are one of the main energy vampires a home can have.

When the warmer months come around and the temperatures start rising, you’ll likely need to make copious use of your AC units. But try to avoid leaving them on unnecessarily. Some people leave their AC running even when they’re not in the room and several units running at once can put a huge strain on your energy bill!

3. Microwaves

There’s no doubting microwaves make eating more convenient. Who doesn’t love heating up a plate of food in a matter of minutes with a simple push of a button?

But microwaves don’t just use energy when they’re running. They also suck a lot of power when they’re in standby mode. Even the power used by their digital clocks adds up in the long run.

You can make savings simply by unplugging your microwave when it’s not in use. It’s a tough habit to get into, but it’ll be worth it once it’s started.

Stay Vigilant to Fend off Different Types of Energy Vampires

A great way to save energy is to remain vigilant. Don’t leave appliances running when you aren’t using them and try to keep your home vampire free!
