Six Handy Storage Solutions for Your Kitchen

June 29, 2019

Since the kitchen is the center of most activity in the home, it can become cramped due to clutter or not having enough storage space. Soon, you may find pots and pans where the toaster is normally placed. Fortunately, there are quick solutions to free up space in your kitchen. Use one of these six tips to get your kitchen back to a usable condition.

Magnets

Use magnetic strips and racks around the kitchen. For example, you can create a floating spice rack by placing your spices in small mason jars with metal lids. Next, attach a magnetic strip under a cabinet and stick the jars to them. If the floating spice rack is closer to the stove, it will be easier to grab what you need while cooking meals. You can also attach a magnetic knife rack to the wall to create an interesting display.

Turn the Stovetop into a Counter

When you are preparing meals, the stovetop is unused space. To add more room to your counters, create burner covers using cutting boards. When it comes time to use the stove, simply remove the covers and cook.

Utilize Your Cabinets

You might not realize that there is unused space around your cabinets, specifically the bottoms and sides. You can install racks to the side of the cabinet to hang your cooking utensils. Another option would be to add hooks along the bottom of the cabinet to hang your favorite mugs.

Optimize Storage Space with Pegboard Systems

Connect locking plastic pegboard hooks to a polypropylene pegboard and create perfectly spaced hooks or shelving space for your pots, pans, ladles, and more. Look for systems with different hook styles and easy, adjustable installation options.

Look at Your Windows and Stove

An unusual place to store items is above the stove and in front of your windows. If your stove does not have a hood, you can place a shelf there for storing pots. For the windows, you can install a rack to hang your cookware on.

Use Different Types of Shelving

Whether you have minimal shelving space or your current ones are full, you can add some shelves in different spots around the kitchen. For example, get a free-standing shelf similar to the ones you see in restaurant kitchens. Not only does it free up space, but it also adds an industrial feel to the kitchen. You can also add shelves to the inside of doors as another storage option.

In Conclusion

Whether you have a tiny kitchen or one that has too much clutter, you need to have enough space to use it properly. Look around your kitchen to see where there is room to store your items. When you make a few minor adjustments, you can have a brag-worthy kitchen.
