- Hang pictures
Do you have a couple of pictures or works of art sitting in the basement or attic? On a Saturday morning, you can hang a few of them without interrupting your usual plan for the day. All you need is a hammer, nails, spirit level, picture hook, and a wire/pipe detector. If you don’t know how, don’t end up with a bent picture frame on your wall, follow this step-by-step guide below.
- Mark the spot you want to hang the picture with a pencil
- Use the pipe/wire detector to ensure you are not damaging anything on the wall
- Drive the nail into the wall together with the picture hook.
- Hang the picture and use the spirit level to make sure the frame is sitting at 90°
If you have frameless pictures, you can purchase low-cost acrylic frames to hold your pictures on the wall and table. Their transparent look will also give the room a sleek finish.
- Clean windows
Cleaning windows is one job that many people avoid, especially when you live on the 13th floor of a high-rise building. Also, it is not fun for most people, so there’s a possibility you’re in that boat as well. Still, it’s not a domestic job that requires hiring a handyman. Water and cleaning solution is fine, but you can also add white vinegar to your cleaning ingredients and watch your windows turn out extra clean.
- Fix a squeaky door
A squeaky door might not be much of an issue when everyone is in a hurry to leave the house in the morning; you probably won’t notice the annoying sound. But wait till that moment when you are looking for peace and quiet with no luck because people keep moving back and forth.
Fixing a squeaky door will only take 15 mins tops if you have the right tools: WD-40 spray and a tissue paper or kitchen roll. Simply spray the hinges and slightly move the door so that the spray reaches the nooks and corners. Wipe the excess spray off the door, and you are good to go.
- Fix a squeaky floorboard
You can’t sneak out for a midnight snack without getting caught if you have a squeaky floorboard at home. Besides, the sounds are altogether annoying and can trigger your downstairs neighbors if you live in a story building. All you need is cornstarch to do it yourself. Pour the powder in between the floorboard gaps till you’ve successfully filled any spaces causing the squeaks.
- Bleed your radiator
Air can render your heating system less effective after extended periods of use. To bleed your radiator, simply open the bolt at the top corner. If there’s air in it, you’ll hear and feel it come out. On the other hand, if there’s no air, you’ll notice water flowing out. Ensure there’s a towel nearby to clean the spill.
