If you are dealing with an uncontrollable problem of mosquitoes, it is best to call in professionals like Affinity Pest Control. Once they get the infestation under control it will be easier for you to maintain your home.
The great thing about contacting experts is that you will be able to see an immediate difference.
2. Standing Water
If you weren’t aware, mosquitoes reproduce in water. This means that any standing water you have around your home is a breeding ground for more mosquitoes. Even the smallest amount of water will work for them.
You want to make sure you turn over any wheelbarrow, empty outdoor water toys, keep the gutters and drain lines clear of debris that will create standing water. It only takes four days for eggs to mature into nymphs. This means that if it rains early in the week do not wait until the end of the week to get rid of any standing water left by the rain.
3. Fans
Using fans will keep mosquitoes from landing on anyone that is sitting near the fan. This is why porch fans work great and having multiple fans wherever you are sitting down enjoying the great outdoors, will also help.
Fans also help disperse the carbon dioxide that we humans emit, which will confuse mosquitoes because they detect a compound in the air that we exhale when they are looking to feed.
4. Mosquito-Repelling Plants
If you like to garden then you might want to plant mosquito-repelling plants. The fragrance and oils in certain plants repel mosquitoes naturally.
Lavender and marigold are plants that mosquitoes do not like at all. Planting a few of these around the perimeter of your home and deck will help keep them away. Other plants they do not like are rosemary, lemongrass, citronella, catnip, basil, sage, and peppermint.
5. Coffee
Your morning coffee is another way to keep those mosquitoes away. You can sprinkle coffee grounds in areas that have standing water that you can’t get rid of. Coffee grounds prevent mosquito larvae from growing which is perfect for keeping them from reproducing.
