How To Correctly Position Doors and Windows For Effective Feng Shui

July 29, 2022

Whether you’re building a house, remodelling an existing one, or looking to purchase a home, you’ll be concerned with how the house flows. There is a benefit to good flow, it makes it easier to move between rooms and the house makes sense.

But, alongside this, you’ll also want to consider how a good flow can benefit the Feng Shui of your home.

The Feng Shui Principle

Feng Shui was practised in ancient China and the practice is continued today. The emphasis of this technique is to encourage harmony with nature and balance in your life. It technically means the way of wind and water. If your home allows these elements to naturally permeate every corner then you are more likely to enjoy balance in life.

It may be an ancient principle but it is practised across the globe. It’s important to be aware of it when dealing with a house.

Opposing Windows

Having a window opposite another window or door is a desirable choice in the modern world. It increases the amount of light in the house and makes it feel larger and brighter.

However, opposing openings don’t always work in Feng Shui.

It is particularly important to avoid positioning doors opposite each other, even if they are great-looking Parkwood doors. The reason is simple, wind enters through doors and windows. If they are opposite each other the forces of nature can be carried in and straight out, without the opportunity to improve the feel of the house.

By offsetting the doors and windows you will create a route through the house, allowing natural energy to flow through and improve the energy of your home.

Colour

It’s important to consider the colour of your doors and even your windows. Feng Shui focuses on bringing positive energy into a home. In order to do this, the house must be designed to attract positive energy. The best way to do this is to use bright colours on your doors, windows, and any shutters you have.

They can make your house look more appealing and even increase its value. More importantly, it will connect you better with nature.

Bed Positioning

It should be noted that the energy in your house will affect your mood and your ability to sleep. Feng Shui teaches that beds positioned under windows encourage negative energy. That’s why you should always keep your bed away from the window. It makes sense as well, you’ll enjoy the room, view, and light better if your bed is further away from the window.

Excess Doors

Fen g Shui states that three doors or more in close proximity are referred to as arguing doors. This is to be avoided as it confuses the flow of Feng Shui and encourages negative energy. This is made worse if the doors touch when opened.

Anyone can add Feng Shui to their home. But, when it applies to windows and doors, everyone should include it in their design. It will make your home feel more comfortable.
