How to Clean Egg off a House: A Guide

September 21, 2020

When it comes to neighborhood mischief, egging a house is a common (but damaging) prank that many homeowners will experience in their lifetime.

Whether you catch the perpetrators or end up having to scrub your house yourself, it’s helpful to know how to clean egg off a house: what works, what doesn’t, and how to get the job done!

Time Is of the Essence

Eggs are particularly frustrating to clean off of a house for several reasons.

First of all, eggs are perishable, which means after a while they’ll start to stink. This problem is only made worse by the sun, which will cook the eggs as soon as it starts to rise in the morning.

Have you ever tried to scrub raw egg off of a dish after it’s been sitting for a few hours? If so, you know how quickly eggs (raw or cooked) stick to surfaces.

So, when it comes to cleaning eggs off of your house, time is of the essence! Get started as soon as you possibly can to make the process easier.

Bring in the Laundry Detergent

When it comes to eggs, dish soap just may not cut it. If you’re looking for the right soap to clean egg off of a wall, it’s time to hit the laundry room.

Enzymatic laundry detergent is your best bet for cleaning eggs off of your home. Dilute about a cup of detergent in a bucket of warm water to make an egg-busting soap solution.

If you’re not able to get your hands on laundry detergent, the next best thing is a stain remover. We’d recommend a stain spray over a stain pen, depending on the size of the egg splatter.

The Right Tools for the Job

It’s tempting to want to use some sort of scraper on the eggs, but beware! Certain materials (like brick) are prone to scratching and you may end up leaving permanent scrapes or marks behind after the egg has washed away.

Instead, try a sponge or gentle scrubbing brush to wash the egg away.

How to Clean Egg off a House: Use the Force

Like we said earlier, it can take a lot of force to scrub dried egg off of a surface. Sometimes all it takes is old-fashioned elbow grease, but other times you’ll want to bring in the big guns.

A high-pressure hose can help melt eggs right off of the wall, saving your wrists and arms from unnecessary pain/effort. For big jobs, it may be worthwhile to invest in a pressure washer. (Here are three reasons for pressure washing, in case you need more convincing.)

Get Cracking

Depending on the extent of the damage, cleaning eggs off of a house can be a daunting task. But the best solution to this is to just get started.

Now that we’ve told you how to clean egg off a house, you’re prepared to tackle the task at hand. For more cleaning tips and tricks, check out our other blog posts!
