How Much Does It Cost to Remove a Mole From Your Yard?

December 16, 2020

Moles may look cute or adorable to some, but these little furballs can wreak havoc on your lawn or garden.

Moles dig hundreds of underground tunnels that will ravage your backyard. If you suspect that there might be moles where you live, it’s natural to consider hiring professional help to get rid of them.

If you’re wondering how much it costs to remove a mole, this article is for you. Read on!

Average Cost to Remove a Mole

If you think there are moles in your garden, the best thing to do is to consult a professional as soon as possible. But of course, you want an idea of how much it’s going to cost first.

Mole removal cost can vary depending on the method used and how many moles there are to remove.

Generally speaking, it’ll set you back between $170 and $350, with an average cost of $260.

For a small infestation with a single mole, prices can go as low as $50. On the other hand, for an extensive infestation with more than four moles, you could be billed as high as $550.

Different Methods

There are different methods for mole extermination, with different costs associated. Mole extermination companies often use traps to get rid of moles. However, some might add the use of fumigation if there is considerable tunneling.

Generally speaking, the most common methods are poisonous baiting, trapping, and fumigation.

Baits

Prices for poisonous bait services are the lowest, ranging from $40 to $75 per trip. A moderate infestation of two or three moles can usually be treated in a single trip by mole exterminators, for an average cost of $50.

But if the infestation is bigger — with three or more moles and extensive tunneling — there might be more trips required, increasing the cost.

Traps

This method is the most common and effective for removing moles. It involves identifying the location of the tunnels, figuring out which ones are still active, and strategically placing traps in those tunnels.

Some traps kill moles, while others preserve life. In the latter case, the exterminator will relocate any trapped moles to an area where they won’t damage gardens or yards. Killing or live-trapping costs should be comparable under most circumstances.

For trapping services, pest control companies will usually charge two different fees: a set-up fee, ranging between $50 and $150, and a per-mole fee, ranging between $20 and $80.

Considering the average set-up fee is $130, and the average per-mole fee is $50, homeowners can expect to pay $260 on average for mole removal.

Fumigation

Fumigation isn’t generally used alone because it’s not as effective as trapping. However, in extensive infestation cases, exterminators may decide to use fumigation combined with trapping.

In these cases, mole removal costs are similar to trapping costs, with an average of $260.

As with traps, fees include a set-up fee as well as a per-mole fee. You can expect costs to add up with larger infestations.

Mole Removal Costs Explained

To sum things up, the cost to remove a mole is $260 on average. The most common method used is trapping because it is also the most effective.

Baits are less costly but also less common, as they tend to not be as effective. Fumigation is sometimes used in combination with trapping at no additional cost.
