Some blenders on the market have the potential for exploding during use. When mixing a sauce or making a smoothie, most consumers do not consider the possibility of an accident involving their blenders. In recent years, however, numerous consumers have reported NutriBullet blenders exploding with regular use. Due to such accidents, those using the blenders or others in the area may suffer serious injuries.
Causes of Blender Explosions
Several factors may contribute to blender explosion accidents. In the case of NutriBullet blenders, reports suggest that the machines may heat up with use. Additionally, the canisters may pressurize, potentially causing the components to separate and users to get injured while cooking. Not only does the separation of the machine components spew the canister contents, but it may also send the blades and other parts flying.
For its part, the company that manufactures the NutriBullet maintains the blender does not malfunction if used as directed. For example, the product manufacturer suggests perhaps consumers who experienced blender accidents used the product for longer than the recommended 30 seconds to one minute or attempted to blend hot liquids.
Common Blender Explosion Injuries
People may suffer a range of injuries as a result of blender accidents. Some of the most common of these may include burns, lacerations, cuts, and even nerve damage. Blender users or others in the area at the time of blender explosions may suffer such injuries to their hands and fingers or faces, some of which may result in permanent scarring or disfigurement.
Due to injuries suffered in blender explosion accidents, consumers may require emergency medical treatment, as well as ongoing care. Depending on the type and severity of their injuries, people who experience blender explosions may need wound debridement, stitches or other such wound care, skin grafts or other surgical procedures, or medications to treat or control symptoms associated with their injuries.
Compensation for Blender Accidents
Like others injured due to dangerous products, many injured due to NutriBullet blender explosions have acted on their right to pursue compensation for their injuries and associated losses. In such lawsuits, injured consumers may seek compensation for their economic losses, including medical expenses, lost wages, and lost future earning capacity. They may also pursue non-economic damages, such as for the physical and emotional pain and suffering caused by their injuries.
As of a November of 2020 FOX 11 LA report, at least one law firm represented nearly 100 consumers in actions against the manufacturers of the NutriBullet blenders. To recover compensation in dangerous products cases such as these, the plaintiffs must show that the manufacturer makes the product, the product was defective when sold, they suffered injuries, and their injuries directly resulted from the product defect. In several of the legal actions involving the NutriBullet blenders, injured consumers point to the existence of a defect that allows the products to explode and the lack of adequate warning on the product’s labels indicates negligence on the part of the manufacturer, who knew of the potential danger.
