Different Kinds of Roofing Options for Residential Homes

September 7, 2022

When renovating a home, there’s a lot to think about, and selecting materials for renovations can be overwhelming. The choices for roofing materials alone are extensive, and the decisions to be made depending on the kind of home design you want and the building and material codes in your area.

The roofs that our homes are made with can affect the resale value, the quality of living, and the energy the home uses. Knowing the different options for your roofing can help you choose the best one for your estate.

Read on to learn about the different roofing options on commercial and residential properties.

Metal Roofing Options

Metal roofing is one of the most popular types of roofing because it is strong, durable, and weatherproof. Many metal roofs, such as gable, A-frame, stone-coated and circular roofs, can be used for residential homes.

Gable roofs have two slopes on either side of the roof, making them perfect for slopes or mountains. An A-frame roof has four supports at the corners, making it strong and able to support heavy loads.

Stone coated metal roofs are made of steel or aluminum and then coated with stone chips and a Protective sealant. A stone coated metal roofing is highly durable and can last up to 50 years. Lastly, a circular roof has a curve along its entire length, which makes it ideal for large areas or long buildings.

Tile Roofing

A tile roof is a roofing system made from individual tiles, usually clay or ceramic. Tile roofs are common in Europe, Asia, and the Americas and have been used for centuries. Tile roofs are durable and long lasting and can add a unique look to a commercial or residential building.

Asphalt Shingles

One of the most popular types of roofing is shingle roofs. They typically cost less to install and maintain than many other types of roofs, and you can replace them relatively quickly if they are damaged.

There are several roof designs and methods when arranging your asphalt shingles. Shingles should be installed in a consistent pattern so that water runoff will not build up on the tiles and cause them to rot.

They should be at least 18 inches wide to ensure proper drainage. If you live in an area that experiences heavy snow or rain, it is a good idea to have a roofing company install a membrane underneath the shingles to prevent water damage.

Slate Roofs

Slate roofs are one of the newer roofing options on the market. Initially designed as water-resistant roofs, they have become popular for their appearance and durability.

Slate roofs can be installed as metal or plastic tile roofs. Metal slate roofs are typically less expensive than plastic ones, but they may not last as long due to metal’s tendency to rust.

Choose the Perfect Roofing Options For Your Commercial or Residential Property

Choosing the perfect roofing options for your commercial or residential property is essential for many reasons. The right roof can protect your property from the elements, improve energy efficiency, and enhance its overall appearance.

When selecting a roofing contractor, choose one with experience and a good reputation. Also, make sure to get written estimates before work begins.
