Imagine yourself washing your face while standing in front of the basin in your washroom after coming home from work. The water is cool and comforting, as you splash it against your face only to get bombarded by a gust of water streaming down on your feet and flooding your entire bathroom due to the pipe leakage right underneath the basin. If that isn’t frustrating enough, now you have to part with your precious time and money to call up your local plumber and get him to fix it. Plumbing problems are commonplace in every home, therefore, it’s important to keep a nearby plumber’s phone number on your speed dial at all times.
Clogged pipes, low-pressure water, running toilet, etc. are some of the usual plumbing issues ready to turn our living more erratic.
In this article, we will talk about some recurring plumbing issues we commonly experience along with tips on solving each of those problems efficiently.
1. Clogged Drains:
Clogged drains result when the piping for taps, tubs, and drains are clogged with solid materials blocking the pathway of the water flow. This leads to lower water pressure at the taps, resulting in slow draining of the sink and a very poor rate of water flow. The best solution in such a case would be to keep a drain cleaner at hand all the time. You could use the drain cleaner to clear out the clogged pipes and enable a smooth flow of water down into the sink. If the situation remains unsolvable, it’s best to replace the pipes.
2. Running Toilet:
I’m sure you’ve oftentimes noticed that even after flushing the toilet, the water in the cistern keeps flowing. This leads to a huge amount of water being drained out and leading to a huge waste of water and eventually causing your water bills to skyrocket! The issue of a running toilet occurs due to the rubber plunger not properly set between the tank and the bowl. The first step you could take is to adjust the floating chain at a certain height to place the bobber in the right spot and prevent water leakage. If there are cracks found on the body of the utensils, it’ll be time for a new set of utensils.
3. Dripping taps:
Dripping taps point to water leaking from the faucets even after you tightly closed the knob. Like most leaks, this causes wastage of water; hence, needing an immediate fix. Dripping taps occur due to a loose or rusty valve or failure in a part of the faucet while preventing the water from dripping. This issue can be fixed simply by using the tools to tighten the nut around the valve if the nut is loose. There isn’t much you can do if there is rust all over, in that case, you need to replace the tap.
4. Leaky pipes:
Leaky pipes are the most problematic given their positions under the sink or tubs and capable of flooding your entire bathroom. Leaks mostly occur around the joints of the pipes where a crack or rust will cause water to spill out. Leaky pipes are a headache and the severity of the situation depends on the origin of the leak as well as the age of the pipes. It’s best to have those pipes in the bathroom observed routinely to avoid any mess. It can be fixed by applying a coating on the leak area of the pipe to seal any cracks along the surface. If further issues occur then you should opt for a new set just in case the disaster happens again. As annoying as they are and there is no doubt that you want to avoid them, plumbing issues are recurring. When you are faced with one, it’s best to have them fixed fast to prevent the issue from escalating. The best advice would be to conduct routine checks on your house’s plumbing, replacing faulty items and to always keep a plumber in hand for fixing leaks, clearing clogs and servicing of boilers.
