Christmas Decor Ideas to Get Your Family in the Christmas Spirit

October 2, 2020

They say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, and it truly is. Yes, it’s the season of giving, and everyone seems to be in a much happier state of mind, but do you know the very aspect of Christmas that gets people the most excited about? It the Christmas decor!

In decorating your home for the holiday season, your options are endless. From your living room to your kitchen and dining room, you can set up a festive fireplace mantel or wow your guests with a beautiful dinner table with a breathtaking centerpiece. And the fun doesn’t just end there either. You can opt for a traditional color scheme of reds and greens or a more modern and elegant look of sliver and gold.

Those are the major areas that people tend to put their focus on, but if you know anything about Christmas decor, then you know the biggest impact is made in the details. Holiday wreaths, stockings, and garland are those small touches that if done right, can make your home the true definition of what it means to walk into a winter wonderland, every time you come home.

Take a look at these Christmas decor ideas to truly get your family into the Christmas spirit. Some of these ideas are things you can buy in-store or online and some are great DIY decor projects you can do as a family.

Christmas Decor Ideas

Create Your Own Festive Holiday Pillows

If you have throw pillows siting in one of your accent chairs or on your couch, why not incorporate the christmas spirit with those? If you have red, white, or green solid color pillows, wrap two strands of white ribbon around it from top to bottom and left to right. Pin a small piece of greenery to the center of where the two strands of ribbon cross.

If you don’t have solid colored throw pillows, no worries, just use the same method with ribbon and greenery, and it will still look just as festive, regardless of the color of pillows you have.

Build Your Own Fireplace

Just because you don’t have a fireplace doesn’t mean you can’t experience one. Get black poster board and round up the kids and have them help you draw a fireplace with a fire going with colored paint markers. Once the fireplace is dry, use push pins to pin it to the wall and the kids can hang stockings on it.

Decorate Your Very Own Charlie Brown Christmas Tree

If you’ve seen A Charlie Brown Christmas, then you know the pitiful looking tree he decorated. As iconic as the movie is, the biggest takeaway that people remember the most about it is his sad little tree. People remember it so well that they incorporate it into their own Christmas decor. Simply grab a twig from outside, place it in a jar or bottle and hang ornaments from it. You can even spray paint the twig if you want!

The interesting thing about A Charlie Brown Christmas tree is the meaning behind the tree. See if this is indeed a small accent tree you’d want to incorporate into your own holiday decor.

Deck Your Walls With Gifts

Whether it’s gifts for your partner, kids, or family and friends, your space is sometimes limited when trying to fit all the gifts under a tree. When you see this happening, you simply move your gifts upward. By adding shelving to your wall space, you’re not only creating a unique flare to your holiday decor but you’re also creating more space around your tree.

Add Rustic Charm

Adding rustic charm to your Christmas decor is simply a matter of adding some outdoor elements to the interiors of your home, and that can be done in so many ways. Add fresh flowers and berries to your dinner table as a centerpiece, incorporate vintage wicker baskets use to decorate mantels, and plaid blankets to add warmth to any room.

Light Up Your Staircase

Battery-operated candles are a beautiful and safe way to illuminate your staircase. This is especially beautiful at night. After all, Santa is going to need something to help him find his way, right?

There countless more ways to decorate your home to get everyone in the Christmas spirit and the great thing about these ways are that you can do a lot these as a family. Everything from using your Christmas mugs as pots for small plants and herbs to hanging your Christmas cards on display, your decorating options are endless. Just think of your home as a blank canvas just waiting for you to spread your holiday decor cheer on it!
