5 Signs You Need an AC Repair or Replacement

April 18, 2022

Having AC is critical to most homes in the world today. You don’t want to get trapped in a heat box with no way to keep things cool. That’s why 2018 saw a demand for 15.3 million AC units.

Knowing when the right time to call an AC repair company is critical to keeping your home comfortable. Below are five signs that you need AC replacement or repair.

1. High Humidity Indoors

Your AC unit doesn’t only keep your home cool during the summer. It also regulates the humidity inside your home by removing moisture from the air before it circulates inside.

If you notice high humidity inside your home, it’s a sign that your AC isn’t removing humidity as expected. You’ll need to have a professional look at the problem to return things to normal.

2. Bad Airflow

You need good airflow in your AC unit for it to cool your home correctly. If something is obstructing that flow, it causes your unit to work harder. Not only does this increase your bills, but it also decreases the lifespan of your unit.

This can be caused by anything from an old filter to a problem with your AC ducts. A professional can track down the problem and restore your airflow.

3. Leaks

A leaking AC unit can mean several things. One cause of a leaking unit is condensation buildup in the drainpipe. In this case, removing the clog is enough to stop the leaking.

However, it can also result from a bad evaporator coil or leaking freon. These are issues you don’t want to handle yourself and are best left to an AC repair professional.

4. High Energy Costs

Your AC unit makes up much of your energy bill, but that doesn’t mean your bills should be enormous. Unfortunately, an AC unit that doesn’t work efficiently will work harder to keep your home cool, leading to higher power bills.

Monitor your power bill over time to see if you have increased energy costs. It pays to have an AC expert check for HVAC issues if you do.

5. Old AC Unit

AC units do a great job keeping your home cool, but they don’t run well forever. There will come a time when it makes more sense to get an AC replacement instead of dealing with all the HVAC problems you experience.

You’ll need to invest in a new AC unit like the AMANA in this situation. It will cost more money than the occasional AC repair, but you’ll save in the long run with lower power bills and no maintenance calls.

Don’t Ignore Signs That You Need AC Repair

Your AC unit is one of the most critical parts of your home, so you can’t afford to let untreated issues go on for too long. Keep the above signs of AC repair in mind during the year. When you can take care of them before they become more significant issues, you can save money on heating and cooling and keep your home comfortable during the hot months.
