4 of the Most Common Washing Machine Problems

May 25, 2020

When your washer machine fails you, you’re left with a lot of dirty laundry, and no one wants that kind of baggage. If your washing machine is having issues lately, then it might be time to start getting to the bottom of the problem.

What is your washer machine doing? Do you know what the cause is? Can you repair it yourself, or do you need to call a professional?

In our guide below, we discuss some of the most common washing machine problems and what the next steps are for you. Don’t air your dirty laundry. Continue reading below for common washer problems that you might be experiencing!

1. Washer Isn’t Draining

If your washer isn’t draining properly or isn’t draining at all, then this could be an issue with several different things. A clogged drain hose might be your first thing to check. You can clear the hose out and then see if it begins to work properly.

Using too much detergent in your washes could cause this. If there’s an object caught in the drain pump, such as a sock, a coin, or something else, then you’ll need to call a washer and dryer repair service.

2. Washer Leaks

Using too much detergent for each wash can also cause your washer to leak. Try to discover where the leak is coming from. Washer machines can leak from several different places including the tub seal, water inlet valve, the fill hose or drain, the drain pump, and more.

If the leak is due to a faulty hose, then this is something you can switch out yourself. If the issue is something else, then you might need to call the professionals.

3. Washer Shakes or Bangs

If your washer shakes around and bangs up the floor and walls during a washing cycle, then you should first check to make sure that the load of clothes inside is evenly dispersed. If this issue happens even when you don’t have a lot of clothes inside the washer, then you should check to ensure the floor is leveled.

When an imbalance of some sort occurs, the washer will bang around.

4. Washer Doesn’t Complete Cycle

You set your washer on a specific wash cycle and then go about your business. An hour or so later, you come back only to learn that the cycle was never completed. If this is an issue you’re experiencing, then you might have a faulty timer.

The time is not the only reason why a washer might not be completing its cycles, though. Call in the professionals and have them take a look to ensure it’s fixed properly.
