4 Early Bed Bug Infestation Signs to Look Out For

September 16, 2021

It’s one of the last things anyone wants to discover in their bed: a bed bug infestation. Unfortunately, bed bugs don’t discriminate and will infest anyone’s house, even the cleanest of homes. Bed bugs travel from person to person or from item to item and you can pick them up just about anywhere.

Hotels, daycares, airplanes, movie theaters, gyms, hospitals, and second-hand furniture/clothing are all some of the most common places to pick up a bed bug hitchhiker. Do you believe you have an early bed bug infestation? Although you might not always be able to prevent bed bugs from entering your home, you should know how to spot them before the infestation worsens.

Continue reading below for a list of bed bug infestation signs to always be on the lookout for.

1. Itchy Bites on Skin

Bed bugs feed on human blood. What does a bed bug infestation on skin look like? Their bites can leave tiny red bumps on the skin that can itch.

The most common areas on the skin for these bites to be are on the hands, legs, and feet. This is because the bed bugs will feed on areas of the skin left exposed during the night. However, not everyone has a reaction to bed bug bites.

If you don’t experience any itchy red bites on your skin, that doesn’t mean you can rule out an infestation just yet.

2. Blood Droplets on Your Sheets

As the bed bugs feed on your blood, they become bloated with their meal. During the night, if you were to roll over or move and crush one of them, this could cause some of the blood to leave their bodies. Unfortunately, it won’t always kill them.

Noticing small blood droplet stains or red/rust-colored smear marks on your sheets could be an indicator of a bed bug infestation.

3. Fecal Matter Marks on the Bed

Something else bed bugs will leave on your sheets is their fecal matter stains. There will be small black or dark brown spots on the bed. These stains are normally found in clusters where the bed bugs like to harbor.

They can be found on your sheets, mattress, on your clothing, and anywhere else where the bed bugs might be harboring.

4. Live Bed Bugs

Of course, noticing a live bed bug in your home is a sure sign of an infestation. If you see a live bed bug, then contact a professional pest control such as this service as soon as possible. Bed bugs are tiny insects of a red/brown color.

They’re flat when they haven’t eaten and then become round after a meal. You’ll most likely find them hiding in small cracks or crevices. Use a flashlight when on the hunt for them to help you find them.

Can You Spot an Early Bed Bug Infestation?

Will you be able to spot an early bed bug infestation in your home? Hopefully, after reading through this guide, you’ll be able to pinpoint early signs that bed bugs are present and then take the next appropriate action. If you’re ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to contact the professionals who can conduct a thorough inspection for you.
