1. Easy Swinging Chair
We’re focusing on simple projects here, so we’re going to be upcycling old and worn chairs into something new!
Whether you have patio chairs going unused at home or you need to take a quick trip to the thrift store, this is going to be an affordable option that adds fun and charm to your backyard.
First, you’re going to have to remove the legs from the swing, making the chair flat at the bottom (or as flat as possible).
Drill 4 holes in the swing, one on each armrest and two on the back. This is where your rope will go. Screw in bolts and affix a washer and a nut to each one. This is where you’re going to attach s-hooks to hold the rope.
For more detailed instructions, see this step-by-step guide.
2. Simple Pallet Coffee Table
You can’t get much easier than this.
You’re going to need one large wood pallet. You can often pick these up for free or you can purchase one if you like. If you’re feeling extra crafty you can stack two or three pallets together with screws and a good drill, but that’s up to you. One will be tall enough when you affix the wheels.
You’ll need 3 caster wheels and one large slab of glass or plexiglass that matches the tip of the pallet.
We suggest starting by spraypainting or staining your pallet to match your outdoor aesthetic, but the rustic look of the wood might appeal to you.
To the bottom of your bottom pallet, drill 4 holes to match the holes in your caster wheels. Simply screw the wheels and the pallet together, lay the glass over the top, and you’re all done. An easy and mobile little table to pair with your favorite folding chairs.
3. DIY Bar Cart: From Crates
Crates are one of the easiest and most readily available things to make DIY projects from.
For this, you’re going to need 4 crates that are the same size. You’ll also need 4 caster wheels and a slab of glass or plexiglass that matches the dimensions of the top.
Saw 2 crates in half horizontally (you may be able to have them sawed at Home Depot, but this is an easy project) and sand down the edges. Align them all so the open ends are facing you. If you’re not tool-savvy, use wood glue to press them together, making sure to line them up. Use a hammer and nails for more secure sticking.
The two bottom crates should be upturned so they’re vertical with the open side facing you. Align them and attach them with your nails or glue. Then attach these to the crates that you already stuck together.
Spraypaint your crates a color that matches your outdoor vibe. If you did the pallet project, we suggest matching, but you can’t go wrong with a clean white paint job.
To the bottom, screw in your wheels, one on each corner.
