It is normal for a woman to get bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection t some point in their life. But it is not normal for the infections to keep coming back and take over your life!
Suffering from chronic bv and yeast infections is something that far too many women are enduring and a cause for so much pain, discomfort, frustration and additional resulting health issues!
But that is why we are here to disclose all you need to know about chronic vaginal health issues. Because knowledge is power in helping prevent and fix infections that don’t need to be constantly present in your life!
What makes a vaginal infection chronic?
While vaginal infections are normal to an extent (life happens!), if the problem starts to re-occur four or more times within the year, you may be dealing with a chronic vaginal infection. The most common chronic vaginal infections women deal with are bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections—caused by an imbalance of either yeast or bacteria in the vagina.
Both yeast and bacteria are common and necessary for your vagina, but keeping it all balanced is key. As soon as there becomes an imbalance, that is when the infections occur and keep coming back!
Here are some of the top reasons why you may be suffering from chronic vaginal infections that simply won’t leave you and your vagina alone!
1. Sexually transmitted infections
While bacterial vaginosis isn’t really transmitted between two people, yeast infections can be passed on between sexual partners. That is why staying protected is so important! So if you have had a yeast infection recently and want to go back to your normal sexual activity with your partner, wear a condom so the infection doesn’t keep getting transmitted between the two of you!
2. Humidity is consistently present
If you live in a humid environment, you may be more prone to an imbalance of yeast or bacteria in your vagina. That is because when you are in a humid climate, you are simply sweating more (yes, your vagina sweats too!). That is why it is important to wear breathable clothing in these types of environment, so the humidity doesn’t get trapped in your vagina and cause repetitive infections. That means that leggings are pretty much a big red flag if you live in humid environments.
3. The medicine you take
Did you know that medicine, such as antibiotics, can cause you to develop vaginal issues like yeast infections? That is because the antibiotics are designed to rid your body of bad bacteria—which can leave your vagina imbalanced. This is often one of the most common symptoms of antibiotics and you should let your doctor know if this is the case so your medication can be amended!
4. How quickly you treat an infection
Another possible cause for chronic infections in your vagina is because the previous infection wasn’t treated fast enough or for long enough! That is why it is so important to act quickly when you notice you have developed symptoms of any infection so that the risk of it becoming an ongoing problem is decreased.
While there are many reasons why you may be suffering from a chronic vaginal infection, the good news is that just because it is chronic doesn’t mean it has to stick around forever. There is a range of ways you can make your chronic vaginal issues go away—such as consulting with your doctor, changing your sexual behaviors, adapting the medication you are taking and switching up the vaginal soaps you use to clean down there.
Just whatever you do, don’t let a chronic vaginal infection take over your life! There is so much more to life than simply having to deal with discomfort and many routes to rectify the problem!
