Low testosterone in men – 6 symptoms to look out for

February 6, 2020

You’ve probably heard of testosterone. It’s the hormone mostly produced by men, that regulates sperm production, has direct links to muscle mass and fat storage as well as playing a vital role in the characteristics of men, including a deep voice and facial and body hair. It also plays a role in your sex drive and sexual maturity. But, did you know that once you hit 30 your testosterone levels start to decrease?

Thanks to the progress of modern therapies and medical advancements, Testosterone replacement therapy is readily available to those who are already suffering the side effects of low testosterone. Click the link to find out more.

For most men who want to go out and continue to enjoy every aspect of their lives, the idea of their testosterone levels dropping is a worrying one. So, what are the symptoms and signs of low testosterone in men? Here you’ll find 6 symptoms to look out for.

Your desire to have sex has decreased

While it’s true that as men age their sex drive naturally decreases when you’re suffering from low testosterone, you may start to notice this change happening very quickly and drastically. Your sudden loss of libido can lead to self-doubt, anxiety and of course, issues with your partner.

Hair loss

We’re all aware of the hereditary factors involved with going bald and losing your hair as you get older. However, there is also a link between low testosterone and the loss of your facial and body hair. Again, these symptoms can have a negative impact on your confidence and your masculinity which, in turn, can lead to anxieties and stress.

Extreme fatigue

Getting the recommended amount of sleep each night is great, but if you don’t feel refreshed, or you’re insistently exhausted throughout the day then this could be a warning sign of your testosterone levels on the decrease. If you’re feeling tired then you’re probably less inclined to want to exercise and therefore weight gain is also inevitable.

Severe mood changes

As mentioned above, due to changes in your body, your sex drive and appearance, mean suffering from low testosterone can lead to mood swings, periods of irritability and even depression.

You’re more prone to injuries

Testosterone doesn’t just work hard to boost your sex drive and increase your fertility; it also helps to strengthen the bones in your body. So, when your levels begin to decrease, so does your bone density, leaving you more susceptible to fractures and breakages.

Changes in your muscles

Because testosterone works hard to help grow and strengthen muscle mass throughout your body when your levels begin to drop so do your muscles. Those big biceps and quads you’ve worked so hard on might be more and more difficult to obtain now that your testosterone levels are dropping. However, their overall function won’t be affected.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar then you should speak with your doctor to discuss your concerns.
