How to Keep Your Mouth in Perfect Top Shape

December 15, 2021

To fully live a healthy lifestyle, you must take care of your dental and oral health. By maintaining good mouth hygiene, you can show off a beautiful smile as well as prevent oral cancer and gum disease. To keep your mouth healthy, you should get it checked by a dentist like Dr. Marvin Taylor at least twice every year. Also, here are tips to ensure your dental and oral health is in the best shape.

Regular Brushing

Do you think that brushing your teeth is just about moving the toothbrush back and forth over your teeth’s surface? If so, you should know that there is a proper way to do it. You need to hold the toothbrush between your fingertips and thumb, so you don’t use too much pressure, which could hurt your gums. Also, excessive pressure can wear down your enamel.

When brushing your tooth, hold the brush at a 45-degree angle. This way, the brush will touch the tooth and your gums. Ensure you brush your tooth’s inner, outer, and chewing surfaces. Brush your teeth at least a couple of times every day and get a new toothbrush after 3-4 months of using the current one.

Regular Flossing

To get rid of all plaque and food debris that may be trapped between your teeth, you must floss your teeth. Often, your toothbrush bristles cannot reach the spaces between your teeth. When you floss your teeth, you reach the tight space between your teeth up to the gum line. Flossing should be done at least once every day.

Mouth Cleaning

While brushing and flossing target your teeth, you should invest in cleaning devices to clean the rest of your mouth. Also, you can use toothpaste to clean your tongue, cheeks, or the roof of your mouth.

Stay Away from Harmful Substances

Sugary food and drinks, as well as alcohol and tobacco, can harm your teeth and mouth. They can cause stains and dullness, deteriorate your enamel, and cause gum disease or oral cancers. If you have to drink sweet beverages, consider sipping them through a straw to minimize contact with your teeth.

Regular Dental Visits

Seeing your dentist at least twice every year is an important part of your oral care routine. A dentist can tell you if something is wrong with your mouth and give you helpful advice to prevent tooth decay and other dental and oral issues.
