How To Feel Better During Your Period

April 25, 2021

Self-care is essential at all times. However, during your period when in the thick of PMS symptoms, self-care can be just the thing you need to help you get by.

If you always find yourself dreading this time of the month, here are some things you can do to help you feel much better.

Get Ideal Period Wear

When you have to be in school, at work, or out and about during your period, a significant point of anxiety is often what to wear. You need comfortable undergarments that will conceal leaks should an accident occur.

Use period underwear for both comfort and functionality. These high-quality cotton underpants come with three leak-resistant, absorbent pads. You can trust this to stay in place and keep you dry.

Work Out

Working out during your period when you probably just want to lie down might seem like an impossible task.

However, if you do it, the outcome might surprise you.

Exercising causes the body to release endorphins. These are feel-good hormones naturally produced by the body. Endorphins work like opioids and relieve pain and stress, two things you might find bothersome during your period.

Whenever possible, carry out your regular work-out routine throughout your period.

Ease Bloating Symptoms

Most women experience some bloating a few days before, during, or after their period. While bloating is not necessarily painful, the tight, full feeling can be uncomfortable.

While there is no magic pill for bloating, there are a few hacks you can use to minimize the bloating. These include drinking a lot of water, eating healthy organic foods as opposed to salty over-processed foods.

Manage the Pain

If you experience abdominal cramps or back pain, managing this discomfort can make your period much easier to deal with.

There are several ways to go about this.

The first is to talk to your doctor about good over-the-counter pills you can be taking during your period. This is especially important for women with severe pain that affects their day-to-day functions.

Massaging your abdominal area is yet another thing you can do during your period to ease the cramping.

Many women also find that a hot water bottle on the abdomen can be rather soothing. A hot compress relaxes the muscles on your abdomen and back, easing the cramping and the associated discomfort.

Have Some Dark Chocolate

If you thought chocolate is a decadent, unhealthy snack to indulge in, think again.

Darker chocolates have higher amounts of healthy cocoa beans and are high in magnesium, iron, and potassium.

Dark chocolate is known to boost one’s mood and relax muscles. A better mood and lowered pain are just what you need.

Conclusion

While these tips are unlikely to take away all your PMS symptoms, they will certainly ease the pain, bloating, and anxiety of your period days.
