Hormone Therapy: Are You a Candidate?

October 17, 2019

Hormones are signaling molecules. Hormones tell our bodies when certain changes are supposed to occur. They enable changes to happen. Some of those changes are physical changes and others are mental changes. Just like a car revs to life when the key is turned in the ignition, hormones signal, or enable, different metabolic processes within the body to happen.

For example, women typically have a menstrual cycle every month. It’s the body’s natural process of preparation for fertilization and pregnancy. This is a process signaled by hormones when they cause the eggs to mature within a woman’s ovaries. If the eggs are fertilized, the woman will not have a period, and if the eggs are not fertilized, she will have a period. As we age, it’s in essence, harder to turn the key, or signal metabolic processes to occur. The body is often slower, and all of those processes that once worked tend to work differently, or not at all. Menopause is a condition in which a woman no longer has her period. It means she will no longer be able to reproduce. It also means that she will have a diminished quality of life as typical side effects of menopause are: hot flashes or flushes, vaginal dryness, decreased libido or other sexual side effects, sleep disturbance, memory changes, mood changes, weight gain, urinary incontinence and heart disease.

Menopause typically occurs in women between the ages of 40 and 50. It happens to every woman, unless she has undergone surgery early in her life; specifically, before puberty; in which her ovaries were removed. For some, female hormone replacement therapy is an option. Hormone replacement therapy such as 4Ever Young targets the specific hormones, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Those hormones are specifically linked to changes related to menopause which linger many years after menopause has ended. There are many different ways to treat women after menopause. Women are able to apply treatments topically if they’re interested in a less invasive way to feel relief from their symptoms. There is also medication available in pill form and even shots. Hormone therapy is accommodating. In addition to the array of treatment options, there are other benefits the sooner the therapy is started.

Menopause typically occurs in phases. Before menopause actually occurs, women may experience symptoms of perimenopause. Perimenopause is when most women typically experience most of the symptoms of menopause. Perimenopause causes women to experience the aforementioned side effect of menopause. However, during perimenopause, women are still able to become pregnant.

Post menopause is also a time in which women may experience discomfort and diminished quality of life. This is a time in which hormone therapy is essential. Hormone therapy will enable a woman to feel more like she did in her youth. It allows a better quality of life. It even has a proven benefit of preventing loss and fracture of bones.

Although there are obvious benefits to hormone therapy, there are also some critical factors to consider before undergoing hormone therapy. You can find out more about hormone therapy and whether it’s right for you by visiting a clinician or your primary physician. Although hormone replacement therapy is a popular option, please consider the type of hormone therapy you receive. Consult your physician or clinician when considering a personal dosage. Hormone therapy is tailored to the specific person, so keep in mind how you want to receive treatment, how long the treatment will last in addition to dosage. Hormone therapy is not an option for everyone, so it’s critical to consult a doctor concerning about treatment.
