Foods to Keep Your Digestive System Happy and Healthy

November 5, 2018

Some of us suffer from stomach disorders like acidity, gas, bloating, and cramping on a regular basis while some of us face it once in a while. Doesn’t matter if it occurs frequently or not it’s always best to get rid of it as quickly as possible to prevent unwanted diseases.

Unhealthy food habits and lifestyle practices are the major causes of several kinds of digestive disorders. This has led to a situation where more and more people come forward looking for food supplements that claim to heal digestive health issues and keep your intestines and stomach healthy.

However, you need to keep in mind that not all formulas work perfectly. The ingredients within the formula could prove to be a risk to your overall health if the listed ingredients on the label and the ingredients within the formula fail to match. Regular intake of certain kinds of food is good for your gut health. Let’s take a look at some of those foods that can keep your digestive system healthy.

Kombucha

Kombucha is prepared by fermenting green or black tea using certain kinds of bacteria along with yeast and sugar. The process of fermentation produces a good amount of probiotic bacteria which is extremely good for your intestines and digestive health. A healthy gut is essential for the overall health of a person and thus the importance of cleansing your digestive system regularly is quite essential. Drinking kombucha on a regular basis is also good for healing ulcers in the stomach.

Mangoes

Mangoes are known to have properties that keep alive the good microbes in your gut. Including a mango in your daily diet is good for controlling blood sugar levels, reducing fat content in the body and it also helps in the proper digestion of food by keeping your gut healthy.

Sprouts

Including plenty of sprouted grains and beans in your diet is good for digestion and proper absorption of nutrients. Sprouted grains also have lower levels of carbohydrates which add to your overall health.

Apple cider vinegar

Consumption of apple cider vinegar helps in producing hydrochloric acid inside your stomach. This stomach acid is extremely beneficial to a person as it helps in digesting carbohydrates, fats, and protein quickly. The healthy probiotics and amino acids in apple cider vinegar are beneficial for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and acid reflux issues. This is also good for losing weight.

Yogurt (with probiotics)

Yogurt that contains sufficient amount of probiotics is good for proper digestion and keeping your digestive tract and intestines healthy. Probiotics are friendly microbes that are beneficial for healing digestive issues like constipation, bloating and diarrhea. Probiotics also help in the digestion of lactose.

Papaya

Papain the digestive enzyme present in papaya helps in breaking down the fibers in protein during the process of digestion. It is also beneficial for people suffering from constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. The gastrointestinal benefits of papain have made it the main enzyme in supplements for digestion. Including papaya in your diet can improve your overall digestive health.

Fennel seeds

Including fennel seeds in your diet is good for reducing stomach cramps and bloating. The antispasmodic properties of fennel seeds help in relaxing the muscles within the digestive tract. The presence of fiber in fennel seeds prevents constipation and improves bowel movements.

Kefir

Kefir is prepared by mixing milk with kefir grain. The kefir culture is prepared by mixing bacteria and yeast with milk. The digestive health benefits of this cultured milk product are quite high. Kefir is highly beneficial to people with lactose intolerance as the kefir culture is good for digesting lactose. It reduces the side effects of lactose intolerance like stomach cramping and bloating. Consumption of kefir increases the good bacteria in the gut which aids proper digestion. Kefir is also good for an inflamed gut.

Beetroot

Beetroot is fiber-rich vegetable making it extremely good for digestion. The fibers in beetroot add bulk to a person’s stool and the nutrients present in this vegetable feeds the friendly bacteria in the gut thereby improving the process of digestion. Both these processes keep a person’s intestines and digestive tract healthy.

To prevent chronic diseases and health disorders it is important that you keep your intestines and digestive system healthy. Unhealthy gut can have a negative impact on your weight, mental health and could result in several other digestive disorders. Consumption of prebiotic foods or probiotic foods or food rich in fibers or a combination of these types of food can keep your intestines and digestive system healthy.
