Fasting is a method of restricting the intake of food for a specific time. Water fasting is a type of fasting in which the consumption of anything other than water is restricted. It has become a popular method to lose weight in the past couple of years. Although water fasting is not suitable for everyone,it is a quick way to lose weight.

Benefits of Water Fasting

For more than a year LifeApps has been researching and reading scientific literature reviews on the mechanisms of prolonged water fasting and its potential benefits for aging and longevity. Water fast can last from 24 to 72 hours. Water fasting should be tried for a few reasons, including religious or spiritual gains, detoxing the body, losing weight, other health benefits that it offers, and preparing for any medical procedure.

Water fasting is mainly undergonebecause of its health benefits, such as lowering the risk of cancers, diabetes, and heart diseases, and promoting autophagy, etc.

The Procedure of Water Fasting

Medical supervision should be administered tospecific groups of people, such as those suffering from gout, diabetes, eating disorders, and several other diseases.

The following is a brief step-by-step guide for water fasting and how the body reacts.

Stage 1 – Beginning A Water Fast

Chances of success in water fast greatly depend on how you prepare your body before the fast. In the 48-36 hours before the fast, a 16-hour fast should be implemented to give the body time to adjust. Cut the intake of energy-intensive foods, observed with wholefood meals and the restriction of processed foods. All this will help the body ensure the fast and reach autophagy benefits.

Stage 2 – 12 Hours into the Water Fast

By the 12th hour of the water fast, your body would have entered the metabolic state of Ketosis. This is when the body breaks down the stored energy and burns fat.

Stage 3 – 24 Hours into the Water Fast

By 24 hours, the cells in your body start recycling old components and break down proteins that had been misfolded which is the cause of Alzheimer’s and other diseases. This is the autophagy process that triggers immune system regeneration.

Stage 4 – 48 Hours into the Water Fast

By this time, the growth hormone levels of your body get increased up to five times.

Stage 5 – 54 Hours into the Water Fast

By 54 hours, the insulin in your body drops to its lowest point since the fast started and now becomes insulin sensitive. This is where people with type-2 diabetes begin to see their body naturally sensitize to insulin again.

Stage 6 – 72 Hours into the Water Fast

By 72 hours of the fast, the body generates new cells by breaking down old immune cells.

Stage 7 – After the Water Fast

Light fruits such as watermelon are the best way to break a fast. This gives your system a chance to get used to food again.

Hence, water fasting is a beneficial way of losing weight while staying healthy.
