7 Tried-And-True Ways to Treat Musculoskeletal Pain

February 9, 2020

When you’re in pain, there’s no time to think. You’re going to want to relieve musculoskeletal pain and fast.

But, how do we get rid of this pain? What is causing it?

Before we figure out the best ways to treat musculoskeletal pain, let’s clarify what it is. It is any pain you may experience in your bones, ligaments, nerves, muscles, and tendons. The pain can be in one spot or radiating throughout your body.

Wherever the pain is, let’s figure out how to treat it.

1. Medicine

Medication can be used to treat musculoskeletal pain and injury. Over the counter medicines like NSAIDs or Tylenol can be used whenever you experience aches and pains.

You may also be interested in trying a topical gel or analgesic to directly impact the source of the pain.

For those who have more intense injuries, injections may be an option. An example would be cortisone injections.

2. Ice and Heat Therapy

First, ask a doctor to confirm that both ice and heat are okay for your particular injury.

Alternating ice and heat can help relieve some of the symptoms of musculoskeletal pain and act as an anti-inflammatory measure.

3. Rest and Relaxation

There is nothing that helps the body rejuvenate more than rest and relaxation.

For minor injuries and pain, try resting first before trying anything more drastic. For major pains, you may not have much of a choice but to lay down and relax, but make sure you seek other help or types of treatment so that you can prevent another episode of pain in the future.

4. Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a fantastic way to approach musculoskeletal pain for long term results.

Find a top professional in the area, like at Victory Rehab physical therapy, and let them help you get rid of your pain and tend to any injuries that could be the cause.

5. Acupuncture for Musculoskeletal Pain

We’re getting out of western medicine a bit here. For a holistic treatment option, try acupuncture. Acupuncture descends from Chinese medicine where needles are placed into the skin.

So, how does sticking needles in your skin help musculoskeletal pain?

The needles are inserted in very special locations to stimulate energy and pressure and release pain.

6. Chiropractor

Many of those who have musculoskeletal pain turn to the experts in chiropractic care. This hands-on therapy helps treat musculoskeletal and nerve pain and focuses on the manipulation of the spinal joints.

7. Splinting

For an injury that is causing musculoskeletal pain, splinting the impacted area will help relieve some of the pressure on that area, as well as help prevent further damage.

Still Experiencing Musculoskeletal Pain?

If you’ve tried treating your musculoskeletal pain with no success, it is time to see a doctor to deal with your acute or chronic pain.
