6 ways to stay safe this summer

June 4, 2021

As COVID-19 restrictions start to lift, here’s how to stay safe while you’re out enjoying yourself

We all deserve to relax and have a bit of fun this summer, especially after the year we’ve endured as a nation. The COVID-19 crisis has marked one of the most stressful and challenging periods in recent history, impacting everything from job security and socialising to travel and shopping.

Now that we are finally seeing things starting to move more towards ‘normal’, we’re all itching to get out and enjoy a few of our favourite activities. The most recent lockdown easing saw the opening of hospitality and leisure businesses across the country, including bars, restaurants, hotels, museums, fitness classes, bowling alleys and more. After a year of essentially being stuck inside the house, many of us are understandably keen to fill our diaries with as many activities as possible.

However, the pandemic isn’t over yet. We still need to make safety and caution a priority and look after ourselves when we’re out and about. Luckily, we’re here to help. Here are six ways to stay safe this summer.

Keep wearing your mask

Wearing a face covering is still widely advised as one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of airborne particles. A face mask should cover your mouth and nose, and will protect yourself from infection from others, and protect others too.

However, some groups should not wear masks. This includes young children under the age of two, people who have trouble breathing, or anyone who is unable to remove their mask without assistance.

Order an Antigen test UK

One of the most effective ways to give yourself peace of mind when it comes to being out and about this summer is to complete a COVID-19 test before you go out. With the likes of the Antigen test, UK residents can easily and accurately test themselves for the virus before they go out, so you know whether you are a risk or now. Of course, remember that you could still catch the virus between the time of testing and going out, so try to do your test as close to going out as possible.

You can get an Antigen test UK from trusted suppliers such as Handstations.co.uk, so you don’t have to live in doubt.

Avoid touching your face

You should avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, especially with unwashed hands. This only serves to increase the spread of germs. In fact, try to be more mindful of what you are touching when you are out. From door handles to railings, we touch a lot of items when out and about, and touching your face afterwards without washing your hands can spread germs more easily.

Wash your hands often

After being in a public place, take the time to wash your hands often with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds. You should also wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

If soap and water aren’t available to you, use hand sanitiser instead. Sanitising stations are now available in many different locations, including shops, supermarkets, restaurants, office buildings and more.

Avoid close contact outside your group

You should maintain social distancing with people outside of your household or bubble when out and about. This is especially true for people who are sick. Where possible, it’s best to keep at least six feet away from others.

Clean and disinfect often

Now that you can have other people inside your house again, be sure to clean and disinfect surfaces before and after they visit. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, computers, phones, keyboards, sinks, toilets, faucets and countertops.
