5 Everyday Activities to Do for Boosting Mental Health

Meditation can better equip you to handle negativity. If you’re new to meditating, give guided meditations a try.

Try mindfulness to focus your attention in the present moment. Set an intention for meditation and identify what your goal is. Activate the five senses to align all yourself in the now:

  1. Touch
  2. Sound
  3. Smell
  4. Sight
  5. Taste

Remember to breathe by slowly inhaling through your nose and out through your mouth. For additional relaxation, try laying down on a flat surface with one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest.

2. Eat the Right Foods

3. Consider Exercise

Time spent outside is a critical component of improving mental health. Consider aerobic exercises like:

  • Swimming
  • Cycling
  • Jogging
  • Walking
  • Gardening
  • Dancing

Aerobic exercises help improve blood circulation to the brain and relieve stress. Exercise also releases endorphins, which reduce your perception of pain and even help you feel happier.

4. Stay Connected

Remember to be talking with friends and family. It is important to build a trustworthy community and stay connected with your support system. These should be people that:

  • Mutually respect and trust you
  • Listen and share with you
  • Show no judgment or criticism

Consider also finding a group of people with similar problems to yours. Those with common life experiences are often more understanding and empathetic to your needs.

5. Establish a Daily Hygiene Routine

A daily hygiene routine is essential in boosting mental health. Remember to shower regularly and wash your hair at least twice a week. Brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes, once after you wake up and once before bed.

Try starting your day by washing your face. This high sensory activity will help you wake up and be ready for the day!
