Superhero fans across the country were delighted with Stargirl, the 2020 fictional superhero show that is executive produced by Geoff Johns. The show, featuring Brec Bassinger as teen Courtney Whitmore, premiered on May 18, 2020. Originally aired on both DC Universe and The CW, the first season included 13 episodes of superhero action and fun.
If you are one of the many fans left wondering what will happen to your favorite Blue Valley superheroes, you don’t have much longer to wait. It’s been confirmed that Stargirl will soon be back for another season, and here’s everything you need to know as you wait for the start of Season 2.
Premise and Cast of the Show
Stargirl centers around Courtney Whitmore, a typical teenager from Blue Valley who discovers Starman’s uniform and Cosmic Staff in the basement of her new home. She finds out that her stepfather was once sidekick to Starman, an iconic superhero who had been presumably killed ten years earlier.
Courtney soon discovers that the Cosmic Staff works for her. She dons the superhero suit and brandishes the Cosmic Staff, transforming into Stargirl and starting a new life of adventure. As Stargirl, Courtney has several new superhero powers. She can levitate and fly, make objects move, and generate and control energy (including laser beams, light blasts, and heat rays).
Stargirl quickly assembles a band of new superheroes, including her stepfather, and rebuilds the Justice Society of America (JSA). The group’s goal is to vanquish the villains of the Injustice Society of America (ISA). As the season progresses, it is revealed that the ISA is orchestrating an evil brainwashing plot. Luckily, by the season finale, the new superheroes manage to derail the ISA’s plot and save Blue Valley.
In addition to Brec Bassinger, Stargirl features a great, all-star cast, including:
- Joel McHale as Starman
- Luke Wilson as Courtney’s stepfather Pat Dugan
- Amy Smart as her mother Barbara
- Trae Romano as her stepbrother Mike
- Yvette Montreal as Yolanda/Wildcat
- Meg DeLacy as Cindy/Shiv
- Cameron Gellman as Rick/Hourman
- Angelika Washington as Beth/Doctor Mid-Nite
