Teenagers today constantly see their elders nagging about why they should not be constantly on their phone. The teenagers counter by talking about how they are not always wasting their time on their phone. That the use of their phones all the time is much more than to use just social media. However, we all know that the principal reasons for teenagers being on social media today is to use social media.

Why Is It A Blessing?

But what is wrong with teenagers being on social media all day after all? Why is it such a big deal? After all, most of what most of these youngsters learn about the world comes from social media through social media handles of most news agencies. In this case, how could someone claim spending so much time on social media is an issue?

Moreover, even the best educational institutes around the world maintain active social media handles to reach more and more prospective students and release important deadlines on the channels. As a result, it is not just great to be on social media, but essential that you stay updated. Furthermore, being on social media also helps with mental health issues by helping you acknowledge that you are not alone, that you have friends that you can reach out with a tap on the screen. So definitely, being on social media is a blessing given the number of insights and updates it brings you and the mental health benefits that it brings.

Why A Curse?

But, lets face it, everyone agrees that social media is abused rather than used. The usage times are much more than recommended times not just for teenagers, but also adults. This is largely because of the addictive nature of the media itself, especially with the culture of memes being such a big deal for people around the world.

There are several reasons that social media is deemed to be a curse in disguise of all the blessings that it carries. Here are some reasons:

Health Concerns

The addiction to social media is a major cause for health deterioration around the world today. With mobile phones being the principal medium for the use of social media. This has imposed several negative impacts on the health of the users with deteriorating vision and back issues being the most important issues.

Furthermore, an indirect way that social media introduces is that it takes up all the time that should be used for exercise. So, while browsing facebook, no girl thinks about using the internet to know more about women’s personal training or for the boys to find investigate the best fitness regimes for themselves.

Mental Health Concerns

It is not just physical health that is so important when it comes to considering the impact of social media but also about mental health. Given that social media is a place where everyone looks to post their happiest moments and their best times, people that are already depressed see their lives as even more miserable. On top of that, the addictive nature of the realm does not let the already depressed person just quit. In fact, the addiction is even stronger in a person that craves the happiness that he/she could not receive.

Then their mental health spirals further out of control into an irreversible state. Hence, social media could be absolutely destructive for people that have even the slightest of insecurity and anxiety. Regulating the use of social media to capitalize on the benefits while minimizing the repercussions is one of the most important initiatives that you can take in your life.
