What Are the Different Types of HVAC Systems That Exist Today?

November 8, 2021

There’s a reason why the HVAC market in North America is worth an estimated $13.8 billion. We rely on these systems to heat and cool our homes every day.

However, despite the amount that we depend on them, many people are unfamiliar with the different types of HVAC systems. Luckily, we’ve made this article.

In it, we’ll give you a crash course on the different types of HVAC systems available on the market. That way, you can choose the best one for your home or building. Let’s get started!

Split Heating and Cooling Systems

A split heating and cooling system is perhaps the most popular type of HVAC system out there. As you can imagine, there are two systems. One of them is for heating and the other one for cooling.

There are both indoor and outdoor components with these systems. They’re ideal because it’s easy to isolate a problem when it occurs. For example, if your furnace starts acting up, then you can easily call antonshvac.com to help.

This type of HVAC system is so popular because it also has the least picky environmental conditions it needs to operate properly.

Hybrid Split Systems

A hybrid split HVAC system works similarly to the traditional heating and cooling system. The only difference is that you get more options when it comes to heating. With this system, you can switch between gas heat and electric heat.

While gas heats things faster, electricity is more efficient. As such, it’s a good option for people who want a choice in what’s powering their heat.

Duct Free or Mini-Split Systems

As its name suggests, duct-free systems are installed in each room without the use of ducts. This gives you a huge amount of control when heating and cooling your house.

You can save a lot of money by only heating and cooling the rooms that you’re currently using. However, keep in mind that this system does come with a huge upfront cost. As such, it might not fit many people’s budgets.

Packaged Heating and Air Conditioning

This is a smaller type of HVAC system that is installed in attics or basements. Due to its compact size, it’s ideal for small houses or apartments that don’t have enough space for a full HVAC system.

However, outside of that, it doesn’t have many practical applications.
