1. Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is a type of massage therapy that emphasizes kneading, tapping, and long strokes. Ultimately, the goal is to relax the body by increasing the circulation of oxygen and blood.
Not only that, but it can also help release muscle knots, which makes it a good option for treating back pain. On top of that, it can improve your sleep.
For the massage, you’ll have to remove your clothes and lie on a massage table. The massage therapist will cover your body with a sheet, which they’ll continuously move as they work on different areas.
2. Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a type of therapeutic massage that involves placing water-heated basalt stones on different areas of the body. By combining heat with gentle pressure, the massage therapist will be able to target the deeper layers of muscle; this makes it a good option for those with muscle tension or pain.
In addition to that, the heated stones can also improve blood flow, relieve stress, and promote relaxation.
Keep in mind, however, that there are certain circumstances where it should be avoided. For example, you should avoid getting a hot stone massage if you have a bleeding disorder or if you’ve had surgery within the last 6 weeks.
3. Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massages are similar to Swedish massages—the only difference is that they use essential oils to promote relaxation. For example, they may use chamomile, eucalyptus, lavender, geranium, cedarwood, or bergamot oil (they’ll be diluted beforehand).
Generally speaking, the oil will be applied directly onto your skin, however, some therapists may give you a full-body massage while you inhale the essential oils through a diffuser.
This can help reduce stress, anxiety, pain, and muscle tension. In addition to that, it can boost your mood. In fact, studies have shown that it can reduce the symptoms of depression.
Tip: Avoid getting an aromatherapy massage if you’re sensitive to strong scents.
