As mentioned earlier, a crime can range from something as simple as not paying a speeding ticket or missing a court date to much more harmful offenses. Warrants also do not appear out of thin air, a warrant is always issued by a judge.

Do You Want to Know How to Find Out if You Have a Warrant?

There are many ways to find out if you have a warrant, such as

  • If you think you might have an outstanding ticket you forgot to pay, a good place to start is at your local Department of Motor Vehicles or Licensing office (depending on what state you live in).
  • To be sure you don’t have any warrants for a driving offense: request to have your driving record mailed to you. You can do so online for around $20.
  • Visit your local county clerk’s website to see if there are any public records listed in your name.
    • This information is most accurate and up to date in counties with large cities.
    • If you live in a small town, this information may be available on the local town sheriff’s website.
  • Hire an attorney—although this option costs money, it will be especially useful if you have a warrant that you’ll need help taking care of.
  • Have a background report performed to ensure that your record is clean and you don’t have any outstanding warrants.
