Kits for electric skateboards are available so you can make specific repairs, tweaks, or upgrades. There are many electric skateboard kits available that include components such as pulleys, axles, wheels, and bearings. Due to the wide variety of terrains skaters motorized longboard encounter, most of them choose to customize their own boards to reach the desired speed and performance.
We decided that our buying guide would focus on the main aspects of electric scooters since you may have other modifications in mind. Here are some tips for choosing the right options for your DIY project:
Developing Platforms
Choosing your electric skateboard deck should take into account the following factors:
Dimensions
It is quite straightforward to select the right path. It is simply a matter of looking at the deck from tip to tail to find out what that shape serves.
You can tell the kind of curvature by looking at how the deck curves up along the two trucks. When stepping on the platform you will see that the truck stands are lower than the platform.
Turning more easily is the purpose of the bend. The bend also gives the deck more flexibility without contacting the ground.
A problem, however, exists. The shape of camber isn’t ideal for electric skateboards. Just to split the parts and lengthen the battery cables may require you to spend more on the mod.
The concave shape is visible between the two areas where your feet are kept when you observe an upward curve. Ensures your toes and heels are secure on the platform, which promotes balance, control, and safety. The result is a comfortable carving platform.
W-shaped concave has an uneven bottom, which is its only downside. Consequently, it will cause mounting issues, requiring you to mount it using bolts or screws.
Flexibility
The only thing you need to pay attention to with the flex is the shape of the deck, since you can just observe it with your eyes. If you stand on the platform and observe how it flexes, you can find out if it flexes.
As soon as you discover the deck is buckled or buckled, we suggest looking for another one. It turns out that electric scooters cannot be used with flex boards.
If the battery has a long frame, inflatable platforms can be a disadvantage. I regret that, as they can be more comfortable and exciting to wear when running over rough surfaces.
The electric skateboard assembly can be adjusted to give you that irresistible bounce.
Here are some tips you can follow:
- Incorporate the battery into the rear of the front truck.
- On the opposite end, mount the electronic speed control (ESC).
- Wooden enclosures that are flexible enough to match the deck should be used.
- A plastic or aluminum housing will bend or break easily.
Dimensions Between Axes
A truck’s distance between its base plates is measured in this way. In addition to batteries, motors, controllers, on/off switches, and LCD screens, it provides space for mounting other parts.
Short decks are always challenging because you have to fit as much as you can along the limited wheelbase. A cable alone requires a minimum clearance of 50 millimeters to follow a proper route. ESCs, on the other hand, require about 100 millimeters.
Penny boards require more space conservation when compared with other types of boards. When your wheelbase is shorter, you must calculate the length of your ESC and batteries. You should also consider the extent to which the truck engines protrude.
Mechanic
Pulley sets for belt driven motors are the ones we discussed above. If you prefer hub motors, then you can consider that as well. Here is a comparison between the two.
Motors With Belts
Motors with belt drives require a pair of pulleys. On the engine side are one and on the wheel side are the other. The belt that runs between them will keep you going.
Electric motorized longboard skateboards work best with belt-driven motors. With them you can choose gear ratios and wheels that meet your needs. With their higher torque, they can accelerate more smoothly.
The pulley system must be kept, unfortunately. There are many pulley kits in stores at the moment, which is a positive.
Additional Considerations
You need to pay attention to the size and KV rating of motors. Your electric skateboard motor can be easily chosen thanks to the wide range of available options.
The size of a motor is represented by a four-digit number. A motor’s torque level is directly correlated to the number it has: the higher the number, the greater the torque.
In terms of KV, belt driven motors are typically rated between 180 and 270. Higher torque is achieved with lower KV ratings. High-powered motors can achieve high speeds.
Automobiles
The axles of an electric skateboard are composed of several components, making them one of the most complex parts. If you want to make sure that the kit is worth buying, you may need to check each component’s quality. There are also sets of trucks that can be purchased by size and profile.
