8 Unforgettable Design Tips for Remodeling Your Home

June 11, 2019

At the end of 2019, Americans spent $354.2 billion on home improvements and repairs. Whether you’ve just moved into a house or have lived in your current one for decades, it may be time for you to join the remodeling ranks.

To make your home improvement experience as smooth as possible, here are 7 unforgettable design tips for remodeling your home.

1. Think About Your Lifestyle

You might want to create a kitchen fit for royalty, but how practical is it, really, especially if you don’t cook much?

When you work on home improvements, don’t just do renovations based on what the average American’s dream home is. Make sure your project gravitates towards the rooms you use most.

2. Go with Open Floor Plans

If your current living space feels cramped, think about knocking down walls with your remodeling. By connecting rooms together, it’ll create a roomier feel.

Since you’re probably gutting up some rooms anyway, throw in a demolition of your walls while you’re at it.

3. Don’t Forget About Lighting

You might put together some beautiful interior design, but without the right lighting, it won’t reach its full potential. If there’s not enough natural lighting through your windows, you need to plan for light fixtures.

4. Evaluate Your Front Door

Your front door is what people see first, and you don’t want a bad first impression with your guests. If you have the budget for it, replace your front door, especially if it’s seen better days.

If you can’t replace it, then at least repaint it to breathe new life into it.

5. Renovate Around Your Floors

For those remodeling on a budget, you might not have the funds to replace your flooring. If this is the case for you, then focus on accommodating your redesign to suit your current flooring.

6. Replace Your Windows and Doors Together

Replacing windows and doors together can obviously save you time and money. but did you know it can also provide better insulation and give you more cohesive aesthetics? If you’re thinking of replacing one, consider replacing the other as well.

7. It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect

You may like order and symmetry in your life, but that won’t necessarily translate well for home design. Add some quirky objects or make some elements slightly asymmetrical to give your rooms some depth.

8. Furnish at a Reasonable Rate

After your home renovation, it’s tempting to immediately fill it up with new furniture to match. This can be a bad idea if you don’t have the budget to get your number 1 choices. If you don’t have enough money to furnish your home with excellent pieces, then take your time to discover and purchase them.
