5 Things You Need to Know Before Passing the CAM Exam

October 29, 2020

The CAM, or community association manager, exam offers plenty of opportunities in the real estate business. However, taking the CAM exam is expensive and has an average pass rate of 40%. What needs to be considered before taking the exam?

First things first, is community association manager the right career for you?

Keep reading to learn about what to expect as a community association manager. Additionally, this article will provide five of the best tips for passing the CAM exam.

What is a Community Association Manager?

A CAM manages various properties, including condominiums, complexes, and neighborhoods. They are responsible for advocating for the homeowners in a living community. They ensure that local rules and regulations are being followed.

They’re responsible for supervising daily operations, handling a budget, and maintaining the facilities and services of residential communities. CAMs should have strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

The median community association manager salary, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, is $58,760.

Most CAM jobs require a minimum of a high school diploma. Previous work experience in a relevant field is heavily encouraged. However, many CAMs choose to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree, or professional certification and license. However, ib school creates the base for students.

1. Understanding the CAM Exam

To gain certification or license, it’s important to pass the CAM exam.

Understanding the format of the exam is a crucial part of passing. Each exam is administered online and must have a webcam and audio to allow for proctoring. The exam is split into two parts.

Part I consists of 115 multiple-choice questions and part II consists of 70 multiple-choice questions.

Each part allows two hours for completion, totaling four hours for the total exam. A passing grade is required for both parts to pass the exam.

2. Prerequisites

Before taking the exam, applicants must fulfill requirements. This includes a pre-license CAM training program. The best strategy for meeting these requirements is to sign up for a CAM license course.

These courses go over all the information that one may see on the CAM exam.

Also, they offer helpful study tools such as flashcards and practice exams.

3. Scheduling the Exam

After meeting the exam requirements, it’s important to follow the scheduling process. Each test taker must receive an official ID and eligibility code. This information gives applicants access to schedule the time and date of the exam.

4. Study

After scheduling the exam, create a study plan. Build a schedule that allows plenty of time to review all of the course models that may be found on the exam.

Take frequent practice exams to assess your understanding of the material. This may offer direction on weaker subject areas.

5. Test Carefully

After meeting the requirements, scheduling the exam, and studying, it’s time to take the test.

When taking the test, it’s important to take your time. Read each question carefully before selecting an answer. Don’t be afraid to skip a question and come back to it if it’s taking too much time.

Best of Luck!

Becoming a community association manager requires hard work. Passing the CAM exam is one of the first steps. However, following these five tips is the best way to prepare yourself to pass the exam!
