On average, Americans spend around five hours on their phones every day, which can cause eye strain and even mental health issues like anxiety.
Luckily, there are plenty of card games available where you can unwind and bond with loved ones. Perhaps you’ve got a gathering planned, and you want to have several games up your sleeve.
Sounds like you? Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place. Here are five card games to play today.
1. 500 Rummy
Game night isn’t complete without a game (or ten!) of rummy.
Unlike casino games, this is simple, and you can play with six players maximum. You must group cards in a sequence or sets depending on your hand. The winner is the last to score 500 points, so get rid of your cards ASAP.
But, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, then try mystery or gin rummy instead.
2. Rook
One of the most popular card games for friends is rook.
You can play with four players, and the goal is to earn the most amount of tricks with point cards. For instance, a king is worth 10 points. The highest bidder of each round can exchange a card with one from the kitty, so they can improve their hand.
Don’t have four people? No worries, you can still have a cracking game with two.
3. Cribbage
Brush up on your card games rules and treat your friends to a game of cribbage. Purists believe you must have a specialized board to keep count, but a pen and paper will do.
The game aims to score either 61 or 121 points by forming several cards together. But you mustn’t have a running total over 31 otherwise you lose the game.
4. Poker
If you’re a die-hard fan of casino card games, then poker is for you.
Although it’s ingrained in our culture, there are many newbies, so don’t be embarrassed if you don’t know the rules. To keep it simple, you must have the best five cards on the table or bluff if you have a poor hand.
Host a casino night as you can ask guests to pool together money and see who has the best poker face.
5. Fan Tan
Want more casino games? Then, have a go at Fan Tan, otherwise known as “sevens” or “dominoes”.
You can play with six players, and sevens are the foundations for each suit. Each player will lay one down, and you can either work your way up or down the deck. The winner plays all their cards.
And if you don’t have that many players, the minimum needed is three.
