3 Major Signs You Have a Rodent Infestation

December 12, 2022

A rodent infestation could see a multitude of dangerous organisms enter your property. Worse, they could decide to call it home, inviting themselves into your life for months or even years.

Your home and property can suffer significant damage from rodents. But it’s never too late to take action when you discover a rodent problem, even if it seems too late.

So what are the top signs you have a rodent infestation? Keep reading to learn three significant signs you need to check on and what you can do to get rid of those pests.

3 Major Signs You Have a Rodent Infestation

There are several major signs to determine if you have a rodent infestation. These include the following:

1. Unpleasant Smell From Different Areas of the House

A foul smell is one of the most prominent early signs of rodent infestation. Rodents often chew on the wood in your home and other materials, leaving a bad smell. When you smell something unpleasant coming from your house, check to see if rodents might be to blame.

2. When You Notice Fresh Droppings

One of the signs of rodents is fresh droppings, which can be found throughout the house. If you discover these rodent poops in your home, there are probably more rodents around since rodents use their droppings to mark their territory.

3. Seeing Chew Marks

Chew marks are one of the most common signs of a rodent infestation. Rodents chew on objects to keep their teeth sharp, which continue to grow throughout their lives.

When they are thirsty or hungry, they chew different things. They chew on wood, plastic, or fabric because it smells like food.

In wood gnawed by their teeth, mice and rats will leave behind small, circular holes. These holes can be found wherever rodents are active in a house, such as the walls, cupboards, furniture, and insulation near heating pipes or wires near the ceiling.

Getting Rid of the Rodent Infestation

It’s essential to have a plan in place to avoid rodent infestations before the issue becomes impossible to handle. Monitoring the area for rodent activity is the first step in prevention. Also, cleaning up pet waste and food scraps from the site will help keep rats away if you notice rodent activity in your home or yard.

The next step is to block off any points of access into your building using wire mesh or heavy-duty metal screening that will keep rats out. Repair any cracks or holes in the walls that could provide pests entry to your residence or business.

Rodent infestation removal is possible. But if it gets worse, contact a local pest control service near your area to handle your home’s pest problem with expertise.

Be Free From Rodents!

The only mice that should be welcome in your home are the ones you can watch on Disney and other cartoon channels. Rodents will affect your home, materials, and even your health!

You must always be alert, especially if you think there is a rodent infestation in your home. Check out the signs above, and strategize on getting rid of them before they get too populated. Doing so will help keep your property clean and safe.

Don’t wait! Take care of the situation quickly and thoroughly!
