Water contamination, wildfires, and chemical exposure, all three of these things are means to a possible lawsuit. In fact, three active lawsuits are out there resulting from injury or illness. Camp Lejeune, Mosquito Fire, and Paraquat are all active lawsuits today that could help ease some who have been affected.
Camp Lejeune
The Camp Lejeune water contamination lawsuit is an outcome of people bathing and ingesting water contaminated with harmful chemicals while serving at the Marine Corps Base Camp in Jacksonville, North Carolina. This occurred between the years 1953 to 1987. The result of this is that those who were on this military base were more likely to develop cancer or other illnesses and ailments.
The reason for the lawsuit is that people believed the USMC leaders had hidden the knowledge of the problem and did not act appropriately or quickly enough to resolve the issue or to notify anyone of the contamination. Therefore, after the U.S. federal government started investigating, they could have the President at the time sign the Janey Ensminger Act into law so people who suffered from the contaminated water could get the medical treatment they needed without the financial burden put on them.
Mosquito Fire
Another lawsuit resulted from the Mosquito Fire, a large and detrimental wildfire that burned near Foresthill, Tahoe, and El Dorado counties in California. It was one of the major wildfires that hit in 2022. It began on September 6, 2022, by Mosquito Ridge Road and was fully contained by October 22, 2022. However, it burned 76,788 acres of land, destroying 78 structures and damaging 13 others.
The lawsuit for this specific wildfire is connected to the Dixie Fire. Therefore, anyone affected by either the Dixie or the Mosquito fire can look into financial reimbursement for any damages resulting from the fire.
Paraquat Exposure
Finally, the Paraquat exposure lawsuit. This is a result of people using a paraquat dichloride that has proven fatal if ingested. Paraquat dichloride is a chemical compound used in herbicides since the 1950s. To be able to use it, a person needs to be trained on the dos and don’ts of the chemical.
Those who had prolonged exposure have had many health issues, not to mention the deaths resulting from misusing paraquat. In addition, there has been a link connected to the use of paraquat and Parkinson’s disease. A handful of studies have been done that indicate this link, and although none have fully proven a connection, more studies are being done to see if there is a link.
Unfortunately, as of now, there is no settlement on the lawsuit since it is still a newer lawsuit. Therefore, only a few can receive financial help for the damages caused by paraquat. So if anyone believes their health issues result from paraquat, they should contact a lawyer and see if they can receive any reimbursement.
If someone believes they should be financially reimbursed for any of these lawsuits, they should reach out to a local attorney to determine if they qualify.
