It’s just so easy to grab a doughnut from the break room instead of eating a proper lunch or hitting up a fast food place. There are better ways though. Ways that you can eat healthy without it getting in the way of work.

1. Don’t Skip Breakfast

Skipping breakfast is the one thing that will set you up for dietary failure. It’s tempting to miss out in favor of getting a few extra minutes of sleep, but if you do that, you’ll cause yourself to eat more than you should at lunch.

Also, skipping breakfast just puts you in a crabby mood and you can’t work efficiently if your mind is on food. It’s called the most important meal of the day for a reason.

2. Meal Prep

While skipping breakfast is the worst dietary mistake that you can make, smart meal prep is the best. The first way you can do this is by making meals for yourself on a weekly basis. Crockpots are your best friend in this endeavor.

All it takes is just a few hours at the beginning of the week. Make a large, healthy meal in a crockpot and take a portion with you every day for lunch. Another way you can do it is on a nightly basis.

Make a meal for yourself the night before each workday to take with you. This is a little more work but it’s doable.

3. Take a Break from Working

When you have a hefty workday ahead of you it’s very tempting to try and eat while you work. This is a bad idea because you’ll lose track of your body’s hunger signals. This means that you’ll continue to eat even after you’ve eaten your fill.

If you put the work away while you eat, turn off your computer, then you’re more likely to stop when your body tells you to because you’ll be more mindful of your meal.

4. Make Healthy Eating Convenient

When you have a million things to do when you get home from work, it can be pretty inconvenient to have to stop by the grocery store to pick up things for your lunches. This is why you have to make healthy eating easy for you.

5. Choose Recipes that Are Simple

Mason jar salads and soups are a great idea because they not only are they easy, but they won’t get gross overnight and soup reheats easily.

6. Go For the Healthy Options

Every once in a while co-workers will ask you to go out for lunch. It can be tempting to go to a fast food chain and order off the dollar menu but if you’re trying to stick to a diet, you don’t want to do this.

Instead, either go to a different restaurant that offers food that isn’t as fattening or if you do go to a fast food place, pick the healthier options.

7. Invest in Healthy Grab and Go Snacks

If you don’t have anything to munch on in your office you may starve yourself for hours on in and overeat during lunch, or go down to the vending machine and pick out a giant cinnamon bun.

It’s actually better to eat little snacks throughout the day rather than eating three big meals. This is why it’s a good idea to up some healthy snacks like boxes of raisins or granola and put it in your desk.

When you get stressed out at work it can be tempting to grab something sugary to deal with it. You have to learn to manage your stress without going for unhealthy options.

Take a step back to meditate or do a quick five-minute breathing exercise to calm yourself down.

10.  It’s Okay to Say No

There will come a time when you are tempted by your co-workers to eat unhealthy foods. They might push you to have a few slices of birthday cake left in the break room but if it’s going to cause you to break your dietary standards, it’s okay to say no.

If you decline in a polite way, most co-workers will understand and stop pestering you.
