Easy, Proven-To-Work Natural Remedies for Anxiety

August 2, 2019

Did you know anxiety disorders impact 40 million adults in the U.S. every year?

Are you looking to try natural remedies for anxiety? Not to worry! In this guide, we’ll go over some evidence-based treatments.

Want to learn more? Keep reading to find out.

Stop Drinking Alcohol

Did you know alcohol is a natural sedative? If you have a glass of wine, you may feel calm at first. When the buzz wears off, anxiety tends to return with a vengeance.

Relying on alcohol to relieve anxiety could lead you to develop alcohol dependence.

Quit Smoking

During stressful times, smokers reach for their cigarettes. Like drinking alcohol, having a smoke is a quick fix that could worsen anxiety over time.

Those who smoke when they are younger are at higher risk of developing an anxiety disorder.

Exercise Throughout the Week

Regular exercise is beneficial for your emotional and physical health. Some people use exercise as a way to ease anxiety. Exercise isn’t a short term fix. You can feel anxiety relief hours later after your workout.

Stop Drinking Coffee

If you suffer from chronic anxiety, you don’t want to drink coffee. Caffeine can cause jitters and nervousness and can worsen anxiety disorders. Drop coffee from your diet and watch your anxiety symptoms improve.

Get Better Sleep

When heading to bed, make sure you don’t watch television in your bedroom. Go to bed without any of your electronics. If you’re tossing and turning, go to another room until you start to feel sleepy again.

Try to avoid large meals, nicotine, and caffeine before you go to bed. For your bedroom, keep it cool and dark to help you fall asleep.

If you worry a lot, write down your worries in a notebook before bedtime. Aim to go to sleep at the same time every night.

Meditate Everyday

Meditation helps remove chaotic thoughts from your mind. It replaces racing thoughts with a sense of calmness. Meditation’s known to help relieve anxiety and stress.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Dehydration, low blood sugar, and chemicals in processed foods can cause mood changes. Keep track of how your anxiety is after eating.

Start tracking your habits and cut processed and sugary foods. Instead, aim to drink water and eat complex carbohydrates. Add lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables to your diet.

A healthy diet, along with medication for anxiety, could do wonders for your well-being. Learn more about different anxiety medications.

Deep Breathing

Have you noticed you have fast or shallow breathing? This is common with people who have anxiety, and it leads to lightheadedness and a rapid heart rate. Try a deep breathing exercise to help restore normal breathing patterns.

Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

Aromatherapy uses essential oils to help promote well-being and good health. You can add certain oils to a warm bath in the evening or put them in a diffuser in your living room.
